NCLEX RN 2013 retakers

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi everyone, nurses and future nurses,

I just wanna ask if there are nclex-rn takers here after April 2013?

For those who did retake it and passed, what are your study tips? what are the things that you did differently this second time around in regards to your review? I am a retaker as well. I took the June 2013 and will retake the exam on october.

Thanks for your help. PLease keep positive posts here, lets encourage and help each other  :bookworm:

took mine june 15th and did hurst review. i feel a lot more confident- i highly recommend it. why are you waiting so long to take it again?

I am retaking my exam too in October. The reason why in October I am leaving my full time position as a nurse tech to study full time. I am taking the Hurst Review course. Heard GREAT things about the review course. My weakness is content. I took the kaplan course and I realize taking the nclex that I was lacking in content. I am READY to TACKLE this exam AGAIN.

I had to retake. I failed in early June and just re-took it a few days ago. Hurst saved my life! If you're weak on content and want some great tips, I HIGHLY recommend the online video review/5th day materials.

Should I go to the LIVE class or just watch the video?

I just did the videos so I could watch them over and over again at my leisure. They also have workbook pages that correspond to each section. Honestly, parts of the review brought everything together for me BETTER than my nursing program did. They are big on understanding and not so much memorizing. I remember during my second test reciting their little sayings for remembering things whenever I got stuck on a question.

There wasn't anything on that test that I didn't recognize even if I wasn't always sure of the answer, and that helps so much if you know what the question is even asking in the first place and don't have to say, "what the heck is that?"

Thank you so much QuaterLife88. You have made me so excited to start. Where can I get the book? Will they mail it to me or do I have to purchase the book at a bookstore?

When you purchase the review, they have PDF forms of the workbook sheets for you to print out if you'd like, so no book to purchase. You can go over your notes as often as you'd like and take them with you anywhere. You don't have to print them out either if you don't want to. I never did, I just looked at them often.

Good luck, I hope you have great success with Hurst. It's a little pricey ($300 I think?), but SOOOOO worth it. I don't think I would have passed without it. It gave me a structured study plan which I needed badly!

Hi there, yes i'm retaking on october because I have to earn money again to be able to afford the exam (pearson fee) +the study material coz its pricey for me (esp i earn salary outside US ) :(

I am weighing in on Hurst or Kaplan. What package of kaplan did you get the first time? Do they give good practice questions in Hurst as well? Did you pass the second take? THanks so much for your inputs here :)

Hi there, what package of kaplan did you take on the first try? thanks. I am thinking of hurst too but would wanna know if they give enough practice questions coz my problem is test taking strategy :(

First time I took it in June (failed with 265 questions). The second time I took it in July (passes with 75 questions). I did not purchase any reviews. I did go out and buy the Kaplan book and believe it or not there was one chapter in the book that made things click for me (the chapter on test taking strategies). I do believe that my issue was extreme anxiety because I was so nervous the first time, but when I took it the second time (after getting something for anxiety from my doctor) I was much more relaxed and able to think clearly when each question popped up on the screen.

I am in. Let's motivate, encourage, help, and support each other.
