I have heard of some schools doing that but now fewer are. It depends on what you really want to do. The school that I am most fimliar with allowed their students to take the boards after the completion of the third semester. Personnally I think I could have waited until the last semester. From a financial point it is a waist of money. Because in 6-8 month you have the opportunity to sit for the RN boards. As far as being to much consider your life style (family, job and other commitments), then think will you have enough time to study for the boards and get a job as an LPN, go through orientation and continue with your RN studies. For what its worth I was an LPN for 16 years before becoming an RN. Stick with RN.

I think if the school is geared that way, you can. My ADN program we were not allowed to sit for the LPN boards because we didn't cover all the information needed.
There is a school here in St. Petersburg that is accredited to let students who finish their first year to sit for LPN boards while they are still in the ADN pgoram after the first year. Most of the students think it is too much to worry about the NCLEX PN while they were in school. But, a few do it because they want the experience and the LPN pay.
Ask the school you are attending.
