NCLEX-PN 85 cut off

Published

HI everyone,

I rescheduled my feb 13 nclex pn exam to yesterday which is jan 23. I was not totally ready to take it this early. My motivation to take it this early is because my dad has terminal cancer and doesn't have much longer. I know one thing he wishes for is for me to pass the board and for him to witness it, which is why i winged it. I didn't have much time to study for. To keep it short, I got cut off at 85. I didn't feel anxious because i did a few program nclex tests designed for board prep. After I got cut off at 85, i feel i indeed failed the exam. I wasn't familiar with a lot of the topics. MY QUESTION IS.. what is the chances of my passing or failing, being they cut me off at the minimal questions? I tried the PVT and got the bad pop up... another question i have is, why would they cut someone off at 85 if that person is failing? I don't see it hurting anyone if they threw in more questions than 85 if the tester is not passing.. Please help..

You would be cut off at the minimum number of questions for two reasons you have exceeded the passing standard in all areas or you failed to meet the passing standard within a specific standard deviation that any further questions (even the max 205) would be statistically impossible for the outcome to change.

Does your state participate in quick results? If so, hang on until they are available tomorrow to get a more definitive answer as to pass/fail. If you missed one detail in doing the PVT you could end up with a false result.

Unfortuntely it doesn't offer quick result. I've been beating myself the whole night about this. I'm so sad if PVT is always accurate.. thank you for the reply

The PVT often accurate but not always accurate. But I'm sorry to say if you didn't recognize most of the content and didn't take a class in test taking strategies the odds are not in your favor. It's difficult especially with your family struggles that were likely weighing on you as you prepared for and took the exam. Once processed by the board of nursing, if you indeed did not pass you will receive a detailed candidate performance report that lets you see where you met, exceeded, were near or below the passing standard in each domain tested. One needs to be above the passing standard in all areas. Use this to develop a study plan that targets your weaker points and strengthens your strong points and then ace your next attempt

May I ask what content you received that you were unfamiliar with?

meds i believe. and there was one question about MUGA scan which i've never heard of during my program. there were a few SATA.. i didn't get any math questions. 2-3 chronological order questions.. one of it is for staging the mental phases of illness for a patient; denial acceptance, searching for help..

i had a lot of meds questions..
