I am gearing up to sit the exam in the next 8 weeks. I am reading my books and studying several hours each day.
For anyone who has recently taken the exam, what was most surprising on the NCLEX-PN that you felt you were not prepared for? Did you find it easier by studying a certain book or using a particular company's test?
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. I am also taking a HESI exit exam shortly and hoping for the best. Thank you!

It is hard for me to say what was the most surprizing thing to see, because in my experience, it was just a STRANGE exam that I can't place into words. I had about 10 medications, where I didn't know what about 4-5 were (I took one wild guess on one of them, looked it up when I got home and saw that I did, in fact choose the correct answer), then, they would ask the symptoms and signs of a disease and then ask what sort of food should they eat, or how should they be isolated. It was not as easy as that...you had to really read the choices. They would not use the word isolation, but words associated with it, such as particulate mask, negative pressure door (not posting NCLEX questions and answers ...just trying to make a point). So, know signs and symptoms, particularly EARLY signs. The book didn't seem to make a difference to me, but I used many CDs to see questions from different aspects. Good luck to you!

I took my NCLEX-PN last Sept, I was surprised at the amount of drug and priority ques that were on it. I studied a range of materials, anything I could get my hands on. The review ques you will study are somewhat like the ques on nclex, but not as tricky. Not to fear though, if u r doing good on your review ques and have a good understanding of the material, and know how to make connections between the situations they will present you should pass!

NCSBN Learning EXT. The questions there almost mimiced the exam, I even had the same questions that were worded differently. I don't think it's so much about getting a book about nursing content, you should get that in school and all of the books are going to say pretty much the same exact thing. At this time it's about hitting your weak areas, not starting over from the beginning of your book or going back over everything in your program. What I found helped me was something that reinforced critical thinking and answering questions correctly. You need a method to answer the questions, what really helped me was Kaplan combined with NCSBN.
