I screwed up - Missing Nclex appointment

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

So I am scheduled to take the nclex-pn this Monday, but meant to reschedule since I am not ready yet. I knew that I had to reschedule within 24 hours of the testing date, but was not aware it was 24 hours on a business day only.

$200 down the drain...

Now I couldn't find a straight answer off of the Texas BON, but I know the current ATT will be invalidated since I am missing the exam...does anybody know if I will have to pay any fees to the BON to request another ATT?

Thanks

The SATAs are easier that the practice exams. I had 26 out of 81 and they were easier than the multiple choice questions in my opinion. Seriously I did not think the test was that bad. I mean some students from my school had me terrified but I was pleasantly surprised. Relax and study the best you can. You can do this DollFace24 :)

I agree completely. I didn't feel like that test was hard. I was shocked. Considering I had failed it once before. But the difference this time was that I was prepared. I had studied and knew my core content so of course the questions were easy, cause I knew it. You can do it! Just study and you will be fine. :)

If they are gonna charge you anyway, just take it. If anything if you fail, it will give you the results where you are weakest in.

Although that is encouraging, but I'm definitely sure I'm not ready since I made a 65 on the ncsbn pretest. In addition I work and cannot just take the day off without prior request.

I'm confused. What were you planning to do about testing on this date before you decided you weren't ready? You scheduled the test so presumably you planned to take it and would have needed to take the day off from work anyway. If it were me, I'd call out sick and take the test. I assume you're going to be leaving this job once you become a licensed nurse and get a job doing that anyway.

If she calls off sick, then passes the test, how does she explain to her employer that she has a license? If she calls off sick, takes the test and fails, how does she explain to her employer that she can no longer work as a graduate nurse?

I would never advocate lying. It's not a good way to start off a career.

First off I'm a He lol.

I've been out of school for a year now and delayed my exam due to having my application go into enforcement for a juvenile record, which is now sealed.

I'm not working as nurse right now, but in the pharmacy.

I'm not going to take the exam because I barely even studied, how I got the 65 on the pretest I don't know, but I could barely remember all the disease processes.

I'm just going to call the BON tomorrow to ask about requesting another ATT.

Okay here is the deal. YOU ARE NEVER FULLY READY FOR THE NCLEX! I don't care what anyone says! Its a scary test, you poured all this work into going to school and you set a test date. TAKE THE TEST Already. IF you don't pass it then take it again. Here is my story. I graduated in May of 2006 was able to work for up to 6 months as a GN so I scheduled my NCLEX for August while I worked over the summer and studied. ON July 30. 2006 I developed a severe infection in my leg(result of car accident that may) On August 2 my test day I walked in to test with 102 degree fever and I failed it, however I was not going to waste the 200 I had already paid. I had to wait 45 days to take it again and Pearson mailed me my results which told me what I was lacking. I think going thru that experienced really helped me focus on what I needed to study on to pass the second time. Which I did. You are just nervous and scared which is very typical and common. Just take it you may surprise yourself!!

I am going to agree with the other posters. Call off sick and take the test. You probably remember more then you think.:bookworm: The worst that can happen is you fail the test and get another 45 days to study anyways.

OP I really wish you would take the test, but since you're adamant about not taking it, I pray that you get all of the preparation that you need to be successful in the future.

I must be really old school. I would never lie to my employer. Even if he's not working in a nursing position, if he passes the test he's going to want to get a nursing job. The employer is going to find out he called off when he wasn't sick (truth will out). What kind of reference are you going to give for someone who lied to you?

Take the test when you have the time scheduled for a day off. It is true: you never feel "ready" to take it.

i know this is an old post but i recently went into enforcement review for non-disclosure of an arrest when i was a minor can you tell me what happened and how did it turn out what did they ask for. were there any stipulations, pls help im very nervous. how ong did it take you to recieve att/ gn status

I'm sure enforcement varies from state to state so not sure how much it will help. Mine were for juvenile charges; I went ahead and got my juvenile records sealed and forwarded the court documents to the enforcement officer. No stipulations were placed. Exactly 4 months. I wrote a very well thought out letter detailing the charges which was required.

By the way all, I found out I did not miss the re-schedule...my ATT expired. I did not know that there was a time limit on the ATT. None the less, I did not take the exam because I had only invested about 10 hours studying and I've been out of school for a whole year. Definitely was not worth lying to my current employer to pretty much blow on the exam.

Hello All,

I know this is an old post but I need an answer for a similar question. I missed my NCLEX exam because my uncle, who was like a father to me, was placed in hospice care just a few days before my exam. He had cancer, stage 4. I was his primary caretaker for about a year and was so busy handling all the hospital and hospice arrangements that I didn't get a chance to reschedule my NCLEX. Plus, even if I did get a chance to reschedule, the last date I could take it before my ATT expired was only 8 days ahead of my originally scheduled date. Given that I wanted to spend as much time as possible by my uncle's side on his last days, of course, I didn't plan on taking the exam. His comfort was my only priority. He passed away on the morning of my scheduled exam. I'm so blessed and thankful to have been able to be right by his side to the very end.

I know that I need to register with Pearson Vue ($200) to take the exam on a new date. However, I'm unsure if I need to submit another Online Examination Application (which includes fingerprints, affidavit of graduation, criminal background check...etc) to the Texas Board of Nursing in order to receive another Authorization to Test. Also, I read somewhere that my record with the Board will indicate that I failed to take the initial exam....is this a permanent bad mark that will affect me in my career? Any info about the above 2 concerns is appreciated while I wait until Monday morning to call the BON and Pearson Vue. I'm desperate to know now. Thanks in advance.
