hurst or kaplan for a foreign grad?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello guys, .

I need your help, I graduated last April 2011 and I took my RN exam last july 25, 2013 but I failed with 257 questions.

I took a break for a month did a cross country road trip with family, and now I'm back and ready to take the NCLEX again. This time I want to take a review but I'm contemplating if I should go for kaplan or go for hurst, or should i do both? Does Kaplan focus on content too? Or just the strategies?

Any suggestions will be great. Thank you everyone.

:-)

 :cheeky: I guess nobody has an answer. But thanks for viewing guys. ;)

Just an update I purchased the Hurst online review a month after I posted this thread. It really helped me with the content. I also read the PDA, Kaplan book and the 35 pages notes from here. I'm so happy to let you guys know that I passed. :)

NCLEX Day

First exam (Failed): I had 257 questions, didn't take a break and finished within 4 hrs. I was so anxious, overwhelmed and just wanted to end it right away.

Second Try (Passed): I prepared myself to have 265 questions but I only had 80 something, I took a break and finished within 2 hrs & 40 minutes. I was more confident, and less anxious. Every time I get a question that I don't have any idea, I would close my eyes and pray. It made a huge difference.

+Prayers to St. Joseph of Cupertino for Success in Examinations+

This powerful prayer is very effective in examinations. It has to be said before appearing in the examination. There are two variants to this prayer. Both the prayers are equally effective. You can choose any one of these:

First Prayer

O Great St. Joseph of Cupertino who while on earth did obtain from God the grace to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew, obtain for me a like favour in the examinations for which I am now preparing. In return I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked.

Through Christ our Lord.

St. Joseph of Cupertino, Pray for us.

Amen.

Second Prayer

O St. Joseph of Cupertino who by your prayer obtained from God to be asked at your examination, the only preposition you knew. Grant that I may like you succeed in the (here mention the name of Examination eg. History paper I ) examination. In return I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked.

O St. Joseph of Cupertino pray for me

O Holy Ghost enlighten me

Our Lady of Good Studies pray for me

Sacred Head of Jesus, Seat of divine wisdom, enlighten me.

Remember, when you succeed in the exam, you should thank God above all

and St. Joseph of Cupertino.

God Bless you +

From what I've seen and heard, Hurst is good to review content and Kaplan is good for strategy. Hope this helps.

Thank you :)

I agree with you, they're good for tackling the nclex. I purchased Hurst and borrowed kaplan book from the library. They both helped me pass :)

Congratulations! I'm also using Hurst Online Review for my 2nd attempt.. I hope I pass this time, just like you! :)

Congratulations!!! I'm in the same situation. Failed my first try with 265 questions, but have already purchased Hurst, but I guess I didn't take it serious enough and thought it will be fine. BIG mistake. Now I'll prepare again and hopefully pass :-) All the best to you!
