NCLEX dilemma

Published

i became a member yesterday because i googled to find out how to get help and encouragement with passing the rn nclex and i noticed just how many people were in the same boat as myself. here's my dilemma... i have been an lpn since 1999 and apart of the military community as well. i was accepted in rn the same year but my husband got orders to germany and i had my third child as well. long story short i got a chance to attend an lpn to rn program and graduated last year. i took the nclex in feb '08 and to my shock- i failed. my sister in law who never touched nursing went to nursing school by my encouragement and she failed the first time as well. she took it again and passed! pressure on!!!! i took it again in july and failed yet again! i don't know what's up? i work full time, go to school, and i study the cd questions as well... same thing i did when i went to lpn school took boards and passed the first time... i feel really hurt and angry and yeah ... jealous... i have rescheduled the exam for nov. 19th at 8am. any words at all will be appreciated.

Welcome

You can do it but set yourself a good study program. You could consider Suzanne's program (see stickies on main forum page) but you do need just over 45 days to do her program once you have completed the first tip

You could also try kaplan they have good strategies for answering the question

hello .......

I feel for your situation. I just passed the NCLEX RN exam myself (265 questions) and I know how it is to fail the first time around. I know my words of ecnouragement may be moot but here are some things I did. Keep on being focused on the task @ hand. Do not "overtrain" or "overstudy". You know all the materials already and all the strategies. All you need to do is apply them. I started a 1 hour study/practice test regime every other day. I just fired up a practice test CD and answered it up to 75 questions. Then the next day relax and watch a DVD movie. Secondly, teach yourself to read the questions and answers out loud. This will slow your mind down to actually think of what the question is asking you and the available answers. Third, do not stress out on the day before the exam, go out and shop or spend time with the family. Lastly, stay positive. Do not let any of the questions rattle you too much or if you go over 75 questions, keep focused. I think the biggest problem of test taking especially the nursing boards, is the pressure and how we respond to that pressure.

I hope this helps...........

:typingOne thing I have been told time and time again is to not over think the question. Read the questions carefully once, twice and ask yourself what are they really asking and then just go with your gut instincts. I am preparing for my NCLEX-PN exam, and I had troubles with over thinking the questions and my instructors kept telling me that I was overthinking them. I hope this advice helps!!!

Kaplans Book had a lot of NCLEX test taking Strategies that I felt were VERY helpful. It teaches you how to break the question down and how to look at what is it really asking you. I would advise you check it out. You dont need to take the course to view the book, just go to any book store like Barnes and Nobles or amazon or ebay and find it. GOOD LUCK!!!

I'd consider Suzanne's Plan and reading the Random Facts Sticky as well as the Infection Control Thread.
