NCLEX decides pass/fail with 95% accuracy?

Published

Hi all,

Does the fact that the NCLEX decides our pass/fail score with 95% accuracy worry you? Does that mean that 5%, 5 out of ever 100 people, may 'fail' when in fact they should have passed? This seems a little bit high, if you end up being one of those 5.

Does anyone have any more info regarding this?

Liz-

It does not mean that 5 out of 100 people will fail even though they should have passed. What it means, is that with a 95% accuracy, it will determine whether YOU have passed or failed. When the computer reaches the point where it can tell you, with 95% assurance that you have passed, it will shut off and that will be the end of your test. It can also mean that once the test has determined with a 95% accuracy that you have failed, it will shut off.

You shouldnt let the 95% worry you - numbers are just numbers. Its going to be your intelligence that allows you to pass the test, not the NCLEX itself. If it has determined with that 95% accuracy that you know what you are doing, you'll pass.

Good luck, and I hope that helped!
