NCLEX-CA: BSN from PH still hopeful looking for other pinoy aspirants

Published

Hello there nurses!

I am a PH BSN graduate.. still hopeful...

Applied June 2014 NCLEX-CA

August 2014: Received a letter asking for additional papers:

1. Complete record of cases (minor major OB) (the 5-5-5)

2. Academic calendar

submitted

I am still waiting for their reply....

To be honest, it is emotionally draining. Frustration is higher than the ceiling. I have read SO MANY comments of others questioning us (international RNs still pursuing CA license) why we are wasting time and money when there is a lot of other states...

for me (and i know others too) heres why:

1. My husband lives works and grew up in CA (in short we cant move. no, we dont want to move)

2. The weather here is great

3. Im a NUrse.

Im a nurse. I will apply NCLEX in CA and try eventhough there have been really discouraging posts i have read and very well understand the risks of being an international graduate. I have also doubts in my application but id rather try than wonder what if all my life... I respect CA NCLEX qualifications. We went here, we adjust to what they want.

All my batchmates (from my school) are RNs here but they already took NCLEX before 2010 concurrency policy.. I graduate 2009 from a top performing school, i have masteral units, i have submitted also my masteral transcript i have written them letters and even school registration forms to prove my enrollment...

Whatever the result may, i have done my best...

So far, while i wait, i do research on LVN route, schools for deficiency classes (in case), read/study when i can and PRAY.

Anyone with the same case as i am is welcome here. PUSO parang GILAS lang mga kabayan.

Im hoping for the best for everybody, foreign or local. applicants.

soCAL pinoy applicants: be my friend

I hear you but I think those cases are generally ok provided they are completed on schedule. They actually gives Phil grads an edge...but California, being the most litigious state is the US, has unreasonably strict standards - which doesn't necessarily equate to high standards. Seriously, California has so many lawyers compared to other states. Tss.

Hi! @cherrybee i submitted my LVN requirements last May and i received my eligibility last June for just a month...

Hi @tori17 thanks for the reply. did bvnpt send u the declaration papers before the eligibility? Did u do separate application? Or had a CA BON application and just had your papers transfered to bvnpt? Thanks so much.

Not actually unreasonable strict standards, they've been there (CA) since 1987 and never changed, NV has been there since 1952, same exact regulations (sometimes enforced as of recent postings) and probably in most of the other State's nursing practice act policies (all probably also for at least a decade or two or more).

It's just being more enforced (since Nov. 2011) in CA, again, it's a privilege and not a right to be licensed as a nurse in CA or any of the other 49 states. A privilege that can be taken away for whatever reasons much like a driver's license.

Lol, yea, CA does have its high numbers of legal eagles like in NY, I hear it all the time at work (law office worker).

Hi! @cherrybee, they send me declaration papers and send it right away. The BON didnt transfer my application. When did you apply for LVN?

Hi I just submitted my lvn application last august 20.

I made an appeal to cali brn last year, this is what they told me..

"Unfortunately, the evaluation stands.

Many applicants who have completed their nursing education from all schools in the Philippines as well as many other countries have to make up course(s) prior to taking the examination in California.

Applicants who have taken and passed the examination and worked for many years in another U.S. state are also required to make up course(s) or have to complete a new nursing program.

I and other Board staff have met with the Chairperson from the Commission on Higher Education Department (CHED) from the Philippines regarding the nursing program curriculums that are taught there. The Chairperson and other representative were surprised on how much the Board knew about all the nursing program curriculums and schools in the Philippines.

I have been with the Board for 20 years and processing international applications for 18 years. When there are issues with program curriculums or training, the Board will inform applicants on what will be required in order to take the examination or become licensed in this state."

It was heartbreaking, but im over it. Hahaha

Hello abbyrenalRN! If you don't mind, may I ask which school you graduated from?

I have reviewed my OR/DR cases and saw that these were concurrent with the semesters where we had our Nursing Practicum lectures and completed them before I graduated. So I am hopeful that in any way, somehow, there's a chance that the CA BRN will grant me an ATT.
