Hi just wanted to start a group for people applying for nursing in Nassau community college fall 2022
I'll be applying with all the prerequisites done except pathophysiology-which I'll be completing in Spring- and an 88 on my TEAS. My total points according to the system should be 165 but I'm hoping it'll go up once I complete Lifespan and human development during the Winter break.

Where did you get the point system at

If you go to the nursing info sessions they explain it.
For each grade you get on a prerequisite class there is a numerical equivalent:
A = 4
A- = 3.75
B+ = 3.5
B = 3
B- = 2.75
C+ = 2.5
C = 2
You have to multiply the numerical value with the number of credits the class is worth. Ex: You have an A in A&P II. 4(credits) x 4 (numerical value of an A grade) = 16 pts
You have to figure out the points for each prerequisite class you've taken like this and add them all up. Then calculate the points you got for each section of the TEAS using these numerical values:
58.7 - 79.9 = 5 pts
80 - 91.99= 10 pts
92 - 100 = 15 pts
Add up all these pts with the pts for your classes then give yourself 5 pts if you've never been in a nursing program and 10 pts if you're a Nassau county resident.
I hope this helps, if not you can search the website for other discussions that have explanations for the points system as well.

Has anyone attended an information session? Wondering if they're of help. I'm a little late to the party but might apply for Fall. There's a session coming up and hoping it will help me decide but I know I'm running out of time. I have 9 pre-reqs done but TEAS scores are not great even after a 2nd attempt. Was just happy to pass. Grades are solid with mostly B+ averages. I know it's different every year but anyone have any idea what a good amount of points are for a chance? TIA and good luck to all!

I have not been to an information session so I can't say anything about that but I will encourage you to read other discussions on this forum from NCC applicants of the past years. I've seen a couple discussions where people with low TEAS scores have gotten accepted. From what I've noticed in the past years discussions, 150+ pts seems to put you in a good position to get accepted but it really depends on the number of applicants that semester and their stats.

Thanks! I have read through some of the threads. I'm really hoping for low applicant numbers (hahahahaha) to help my chances. I just heard from a friend of a friend (so not exactly reliable) that there was no mention in the information session that they attended about points for being a Nassau resident or not having failed a program before. I really hope that's not true because I could really use those points.

Can you tell me where to find the list of prerequisites?
Not sure where they are but they are:
A&P I
A&P II
Medical Microbiology
Pathophysiology
Biomedical ethics
Psychology I
Lifespan and Human Development
Intro to Statistics
English composition I
English composition II
If you look at the course description page you'll see that these are all the classes offered by NCC that do not require nursing prerequisites.

Unfortunately I think fall is the harder semester to get into since you're also competing with high schoolers that are applying into the program and they get priority. I know they have 96 seats open every semester but I'm not sure if that's only for transfers or including the high school applicants too. I hope your friend of your friend is wrong too cuz that's 15 points gone.

I got 7/10 prerequisites done with all As. I'm taking A&P2 now, and will take microbio and patho in the Summer.
just took my TEAS with passing scores. my TEAS scores aren't great. I still can't believe I got 60 in reading. this exam is really no joke.
my current total point is 133. and I think I have a very low chance of getting accepted for the fall semester. but it doesn't hurt to apply anyway :)
if I don't get in, I will apply again next semester. hopefully by then, with all 10 prerequisites done, I will have a better chance of getting in.
