Hi everyone!
I'm submitting a packet to hopefully direct commission into the Navy Nurse Corps. I have about 4.5 years of experience in a couple different specialties but I submitted for med/surg. It's been about a year process (some of that was me dragging my feet). I have gone to MEPS, submitted my background, and from what I was told my credentialing process is in "final review." I know that I have to do my two interviews but I'm not sure what else is left. There is a lot of helpful information about the interviews on Reddit but I'm looking for any insight to those have done direct commissioning. I'm a prior enlisted hospital corpsman but this process has been SO much different. A little more difficult in my opinion. Thanks everyone!
Jan 2025 update: my interviews were completed within a week of each other. One was more relaxed and the more formal of the two still wasn't bad. Just a lot of talking about my experience and my expectations coming back in. The LCDR who did my second interview was very helpful in making me understand the expectations of my position as well as growth opportunities while I'm active duty. My recruiter submitted my completed package in the middle of November 2024. It must have had an initial review by someone because around November 18th, 2024 I had to re-submit my family care plan (original one was an old form or something), and re-submit my resume reflecting a new job I started. I have not heard anything since. I was hopeful to have an answer in November but I knew there would be possible delays from the holidays and new year. It is the end of January so maybe I will know soon. Navy gives a timeline of 9-16 weeks to receive that so without counting the two weeks in November, it has only been about 8 weeks. If that timeline is correct, I'm looking at mid February-mid March 2025. Once I get my scroll and oath I will get my orders and ODS date. I will update here when I hear anything further. I hope this helps someone 🙂

Dakota I posted my timeline on here if that helps any. I feel like holidays and election stuff can slow things down.
What specialty are you applying for? Its the waiting game right now.. hopefully you get your results soon!
Critical care here. Also, just to note, prior service gets you O-whateverE pay and yours years of nursing get you Time In Grade, for an earlier promotion. As far as I can tell based on my COMDOCS, I go in as O-2E(p) with almost two years time in grade. I think I am eligible to pick up O-3E in three months of starting ODS.
Absolutely, I'm being patient. I put in another post that I'm 4 months from graduating FNP school anyways so I'd like to finish that before I leave to ODS. There's a June 8th rotation that would be perfect if I can leave then. And floRNda, I went in med/surg it's been too long since I've worked ICU and all of my PACU experience is outpatient. I don't mind though I'm going to try to moonlight as a FNP then redesignate once I have enough experience to do so. My enlisted experience working with RNs has shown me that it doesn't matter your specialty, they will put you wherever they need to. I know a lot off Naval hospitals have big need for L & D/ post partum and we can be put there.

@DakotaPartin What did your contract look like? Did you get a bonus for commissioning? Did you get choice for first duty station? Anything else? I'm thinking about it and spike with a recruiter but still not sure.

I submitted my package in November so no contract yet. I did get a bonus at the time it was $50,000 for med/ Surg I'm not sure if it increased for 2025. They give you a "wish list" for duty stations but it's never guaranteed.

Hey! I was so happy to find your post- sounds like we are in the same boat! I am also previously Navy enlisted- and now experienced RN with 8years of experience. I also have my FNP, but not the required 2 years of experience to commission. Re-designating later is also something I was considering. I submitted my package in November for the January 15th board. I am (not very) patiently waiting! My specialty is L&D. I'm hoping to hear something back from the board by Feb. 1st.... Did you get to make your Wish List for duty stations? I'm hoping to go overseas- Japan was my first choice! The Captain who did one of my interviews was very helpful and said as an experienced nurse- I should be able to have more flexibility with duty stations and not have to do any new nurse preceptorship stuff. I am wanting to go to ODS in May or June. I've been trying to get ready for the PRT- no more sit ups like the old Navy LOL- it's planks now! I also got the 50K bonus...did you get any details on how that will be paid out? All of the blogs and videos I've been watching about ODS mention that we need to have about $4000 in hand for uniforms, etc.
If you go in May, I'll see you there! Congrats on getting this far along. It's quite the process for sure.
