Hello all,
New to the forum. I read alot of post on here about ways to get money for furthering your nurse education. (nurse anesthetists, Critical Care, etc) There are programs in the Navy Reserve that pay monthly stipends to those accepted to chosen specialty training programs. Also the Reserve provides substantial bonuses from 30,000 to 75,000 depending on specialties. :yeah:The Navy is looking for qualified Nurses to fill these spaces. Does anyone want to know more information about whats available to them? Respond back to this post.
Hello Kambav34,
Thanks for the post. I'm patiently waiting for what the US Navy has to say about my AD application kit I submitted last month. I haven't lost hope, I feel my kit is pretty solid. But having a plan B is also a good idea.
In the case my AD kit is passed over, the Reserves would make a great back up plan. I live in the Seattle area and the University of Washington offers a DNP program. Does the US Navy reserve pay for school or some part of it?
Thanks

I have been working with a GA Navy Reserve recruiter. I've been extremely busy but should be done with my packet in the next couple weeks once I gather a few more documents. I've done the physical, interview, etc.
I have been interested in joining the military for YEARS but earned my BSN in 2008 and finally moving forward. I wanted AD initially but Reserves seems like a better fit for me right now, it seems AD slots are low anyway.
Good luck to everyone!
Hi Kambav34 and others!
Looking for as much info/help as possible!!
Graduated May 2010; just got licensed, Jan 2011. No hospital experience (besides clinicals/practicum).
I was originally looking into civilian work abroad but am now thinking joining the reserves would (maybe) be a quicker way for me to achieve my goal of moving to Europe.
My question is: if I talk to a reserve recruiter, how "picky" will they allow me to be before I sign? Basically, I only want to join if I can be guaranteed a position abroad (preferrably Europe). **I hope I'm not giving anyone the wrong impression--the reason for the desired location is to be with my fiance who is in Europe**.
So, if anyone can answer my question, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks so much!

Hi Ace587RN,
You mentioned that you joined the Navy reserve instead of AD because of no slots. That's what I've been told when trying to join as well. I'm a recent BSN graduate, May 2010 & I also just recently passed my NCLEX-RN a few weeks ago on Sept. 8.
My question is, how is the Navy Nursing Corp. (Reserve) for you? What is your rank and is it any different from the AD Nurses. What are the PROS and CONS of joining the Reserve instead of AD..and what are your experiences? How long did the process go once you've turned in all your paperwork and ODS? I have so much questions in mind. My recruiter says that it's an 8 year commitment (not just in the Navy but in all branches) for officers.
Is my recruiter being very helpful to me only because he will benefit from me joining the navy? What do recruiters get out of it? Sometimes I think he's just too nice.
Also, did they navy help you if you had any student loans? OR will they help you in furthering your education if you decide to go for masters..and even to doctorates?
If you had to choose between the Navy vs. the Airforce, which would it be? Why or why not?
This is a big decision to make. I need some word of advice from someone like you who has actually gone through the whole process and who is in it right now. I just want to make sure I make the right decisions.
Advice would be greatly appreciated :)..THANKS,
