Selection board 2012 for air force
I also want to add some of my general nursing background information to have an idea: -graduated in 2010 with my BSN degree -passed NCLEX Sept 8, 2010 -Currently working for 1yr and 7months as a Med-Surg Nurse full-time -no prior military service ...this is basically what my background is trying to apply for the FQ boards as an AF Active Duty nurse I was a non-select so I was not sure what could of factored in the decision of me not being chosen. I was wondering if anyone could give me any ideas/reasons why you think I wasn't selected. Could it be not having enough experience? Any opinions/comments would help.... Thanks.

Navy Nurse Corp Officer Opportunites in the Navy Reserve
Hi Ace587RN, You mentioned that you joined the Navy reserve instead of AD because of no slots. That's what I've been told when trying to join as well. I'm a recent BSN graduate, May 2010 & I also just recently passed my NCLEX-RN a few weeks ago on Sept. 8. My question is, how is the Navy Nursing Corp. (Reserve) for you? What is your rank and is it any different from the AD Nurses. What are the PROS and CONS of joining the Reserve instead of AD..and what are your experiences? How long did the process go once you've turned in all your paperwork and ODS? I have so much questions in mind. My recruiter says that it's an 8 year commitment (not just in the Navy but in all branches) for officers. Is my recruiter being very helpful to me only because he will benefit from me joining the navy? What do recruiters get out of it? Sometimes I think he's just too nice. Also, did they navy help you if you had any student loans? OR will they help you in furthering your education if you decide to go for masters..and even to doctorates? If you had to choose between the Navy vs. the Airforce, which would it be? Why or why not? This is a big decision to make. I need some word of advice from someone like you who has actually gone through the whole process and who is in it right now. I just want to make sure I make the right decisions. Advice would be greatly appreciated :)..THANKS, destiny2k5

Taking my NCLEX soon
Hi all, I'm taking my NCLEX on Sept. 8, which is a little bit over a week from now. The resources I have are Saunders, LaCharity, Kaplan 2010-2011 strategies book, and the Kaplan course online. But, I'm mainly focusing on Kaplan online. My scores on the Diagnostic Exam, Question Trainers 1-7, and Readiness Test are as follows: Diagnostic= 59% QT 1= 69% QT 2= 64% QT 3= 58% QT 4= 65% QT 5= 71% QT 6= 68% QT 7= 65% Readiness Test= 69% I'm still nervous about taking the NCLEX! Just wanted to know if this indicates that I'm ready...or if any of you guys think I should look over some other resources to help me prepare...I haven't really looked over the LaCharity book yet but i do plan to go over it a bit. If any of you used this book, did it help significantly? Still need some advice...

Will take my NCLEX in 2 days time...
joycie20: i dont think anyone will ever feel prepared enough..everyone that i know that has gone through the nclex say the same. But if you absolutely think you need more time to study, go with what you feel is best. A couple of my study buddies felt more prepared than i did so they are taking it this week. On my side of the story, i still felt that i need a little more time than they did. In this case, I'm taking my NCLEX in 2 weeks. It's normal to experience anxiety...you're not the only one who feels this way. I say stick with your test date. However, if you do feel you need more time...re-schedule it. But just remember ..try not to prolong your time for the NCLEX. Keep practicing questions! And touch up/review on content areas you feel you are weak on.....don't forget labs....

Kaplan Book vs Saunders
hi, I have both books--the Saunders & Kaplan Course book (that you can only receive through mail if you purchased the complete online course). I agree with the previous posts that Kaplan gives you important points/straight to the point but there are some things/additional information that could be missing. So, I use the Saunders as another source for content. Saunders is great in content especially if you think you are weak in certain areas. I would suggest looking over the section in Saunders. As for questions, Kaplan is really good. It helps you think critically on the higher level questions...it will help prepare you for the NCLEX. If you are unable to do the complete online course. I definitely recommend purchasing the QBANK. Before your exam, practice practice practice questions! I believe it will help you in getting the feel of taking exams..and also endurance of taking certain number of questions on NCLEX. We never know how many questions we get! I'm planning on do this before my exam which is in a few weeks... Good luck!
