Apparently this is a new thing they are trialing in the UK? UK nurses, have you any experience with this you can tell us about?
All I can think about when watching this is how many times I've seen providers or scrub nurses get freaked when someone gets a little too close to their field, or a mask is too loose, or a little hair pops out the side of the hair net.
I'd like to know what their infection rates are. Something tells me they're probably relatively unchanged but it'd be interesting to see.
Yeah, people get pretty wiggy in the OR, so I'm really wondering about the logistics of this whole thing. You'd have to have a REALLY super chill and relaxed team to do it, I think. All I can think about when watching this is how many times I've seen providers or scrub nurses get freaked when someone gets a little too close to their field, or a mask is too loose, or a little hair pops out the side of the hair net.I'd like to know what their infection rates are. The thought of being able to see my abdomen open right in front of me...No thanks! Skin-to-skin right after the baby's out would be sufficiently "natural" for me.
Meanwhile during my own section I'm squinting at the overhead light trying to catch a reflection and if my arms hadn't been pinned down I'd probably be pulling the drape. Lol. I would've LOVED this as an option.
I also think alot of moms who have to have am. RCS and had a bad experience the first time would also love this.

As with anything I think there will be a happy medium between the cold OR where mom and baby are not really in close contact for well over an hour and the 'natural c/section' where if I'm honest the thoughts of contamination and infection squick me out.
We put our babies skin to skin in the OR as soon as possible, usually before they're done closing mom up. I am a stickler about keeping babies warm and none of my babies have gotten cold yet. I had my doubts about STS in the OR but having done it now I am on board. It just has to be done right, like anything else.
But let's not trash safety while we're at it.
