National University, SD October 2015 Cohort 44

Published

Anyone applying for the ABSN in National University in San Diego for the October cohort. I just took my TEAS and did not do very well. I trying to find out if I am able to retake the TEAS to better my score and submit that before the start date in October.

Anyone out there applying for the same program know, or anyone that's been through it have any information on how it works? I've e-mail the nursing department but it seems really hard to get feedback at a descent amount of time.

Thank You!

Oh wow, that's a really good GPA breezykels. I'm curious to know why you didn't get in since your GPA is really good. Hopefully ** send you an email with the breakdown to explain! Well it's definitely good to have options, specially if they save you a few thousand! Well better luck to us next cohort! I don't know how I'm going to go from a 68 on my teas to a 90 but I'm going to try!

Hey ednies. I got a response yesterday and I only got a 10/20 on my essay. I ended up being 1 point below the cutoff. I am usually pretty good at writing essays and I felt good about my essay so I am wondering if I misread my question and didn't address what they were asking? Who knows. My essay was pretty matter of fact. Maybe they wanted something more personal. Well hopefully if I can get my teas score up I'll have more wiggle room next time. Good luck. I'm sure I'll see you on here after thennext cohort when we're waiting for an answer again. :)

hi breezykels did you email the nursing department for a breakdown of your score? i emailed the nursing department on the 4th and still havent gotten a respinse yet. Also did anyone get accepted as an alternate?

For those that have been accepted, did you receive an email about what needs to be done prior to school (insurance, etc) and when the orientation actually is? I ask because I have not.

Sorry for the late reply, Cordonez! I got the email for the requirements a few days ago but the nursing department recently resent an email containing attached documents to bring to the orientation. Hopefully you received the email, if not it may be in your spam folder. If you need me to forward it to you, let me know!

How is everyone doing? Did classes already start? I am taking my last pre-nursing class at NU and will apply in January but I've been browsing this forum to learn a thing or two :)

If any of you could do anything over what would that be? Any advice for me?

Thank you.

JVC83, How do you like NU? I am currently attending a university in NC. I will have completed all but two pre-reqs (all science pre-reqs) by the end of this semester, and was looking into applying at NU for the BSN program when we transfer to SD in April of 2016. I've heard A LOT of bad reviews about this school. I'm trying to find ANY information that I can so that I don't make a huge mistake, but I'm not finding very many current posts or topics on this school.

Jtwin01, Hi!!!! Well I am new to the area myself so I might not be the best to talk about the other schools here but I have been enrolled at NU since July and I do like the school, it's fast paced so you don't elevate a lot of time. The BSN program takes 4 cohorts per year, you can't beat that in this area. If you are gonna be using your GI Bill just know that you won't be the full housing allowance like the community colleges because NU only reports the days you are in school for that class so it's never months at a time. The good thing about that is that it prolongs the life of your benefits :)

I don't think you would make a huge mistake making NU your first option but when you get here definitely explore plan B. That is exactly what I am doing.

Good luck with everything and if you need I am here :)

Awesome! Thank you so much for your response! My husband is active duty Navy, so we will be getting BAH. Housing won't be a problem. NU is my first choice. I took A&P I & II at my local university over the summer, which were five week courses. Even though it was intense and fast-paced, I liked how quickly the class went by. So, I have some idea of how NU class work may be and it does appeal to me more.

Cool! I'm on the same boat but CG instead :) but I was in as well so I too get the BAH for the GI Bill... Anyway. Have you taken the Teas V? NU will count your GPA (only A&P I n II, Micro and Bio Stats combined), Teas score and an essay you do there. It's a point system. I contacted an advisor prior to moving and sent all transcripts ahead of time because it does take 6 weeks to get evaluated, that way you know if they will accept ALL needed pre reqs ;)

I have spoken with an advisor and he did a preliminary review of my prerequisites and what would be accepted. I'm going to take the TEAS in January. I have to take the Bio Stats and another class, which I'll probably do online in February and March, so that when I arrive in April I can begin the application process for the next available cohort. My GPA is currently a 3.5. I'm taking Micro now. What is Bio Stats...a biological statistics course?

It's called Biomedical Statistics, so basically statistics but all the data and studies are related to medical field. I took it with ---------------- and he was amazing! I learned so much with him and ended the class with an A, so if you can take it with him ;)
