Hi all,
I am applying to the BSN program at national this month & wanted to start a feed to see if there's anyone else out there applying/preparing for TEAS, etc!
Yeah I would think NU has one of the higher NCLEX pass rates in the state, last cohort was about 97% pass on the first try; the only reason that it was not 100 is because 2-3 people did not take the test (life issues, pregnancy, what have you...). There is no preceptorship in the clinical portion, however, networking is very strong at NU amongst the staff and student body. Almost everyone in Cohort 48 has a job already, and same with cohort 47. (I know them from NUSNA workshops). I'm not really worried about finding work upon graduating, as I'm already networking and making advances toward my career goals. There is a support system in place, it's just different from the other schools. Grads from NU are helping new grads procure a position. It's nice to see everyone looking out for each other. Make as many contacts as you can.
I saw NUSNA on instagram - I'm thinking you can only be part of this if you're in the program?
They have a lot of events and social meetings etc. that look fun! I like how a lot of students are really involved...including the alumni.
I'm thinking of applying for the generic BSN program, I've talked to a lot of LVN's and they all want to apply to the generic since they let in about 50 applicants whereas the LVN to BSN program only has 20 seats. More competition I guess and harder to get in.

Oh I didn't realize that! Check your email, I sent you some stuff
Those workshops look like a great place to network. Didn't even know they existed. Pass rates I'm running off are from here. My few resources are from the nursing subreddit and contacting fb cohort groups. Peeps that have graduated mention the lack of a preceptorship as being a setback. Things like 20 spots for a Sharp new grad program with 100 applicants. References to busting their butts and such. Kinda doom and gloom for the majority of grads. Are you networking through a job in a hospital, for example? Getting into the system is the hard part, working as a tech is a huge leg up.
Everyone having a job is great, unless that job is in a SNF. Then you might as well... not work. The path that I've seen is either taking a job down in PVH to qualify out of new grad status with the larger systems or basically take any job that gets you into the system and be patient. But my experience is just talking to people I know. CSUSM and NU don't monitor where their grads end up, just NCLEX pass rates. It strikes me as odd, but maybe it's just the industry standard.
Yes, everyone has been working as a tech after med-surge, then the hospitals just hire them as new grads when they graduate. I'll do the same.
It does mention what cohort and various other things to register. I'll try and register today and see if it gives me an error for applying for a cohort that doesn't have a registry yet.
So I attempted to apply via the NUSNA webportal but it glitches to a 404 error. Got this from the membership director: "I'm sorry about that. The website interest form can be a little glitchy. I will be at your Pre-Orientation to give information about NUSNA and I will be at your Orientation to collect membership applications! If you have any questions before then, feel free to let me know!"

Yeah I should have clarified you have to be accepted and go to orientation to be a member. I can assure you that no one checks if you go to the workshops. I've been going since December and my orientation is this week
uh, no
