Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. :banghead: Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Thanks

OH OH and.. what is the average gpa to get into the nursing program?

Would you guys recommend if I did LVN at Kaplan college, then do the LVN-BSN step up program? Which way would be faster?

1) Finish nursing pre-req's at a community college, then apply to national university

2) Go straight into the LVN program at Kaplan College, then do the step up program LVN-BSN at National University.

PLEASE HELP ME OUT!! Haha =)

Hi there. None of your units for prereqs would transfer for kaplan. They are accredited for nursing only. So, if you did LVN-BSN, you would have to do your prereqs over.

As for being done by summer 2010 if you went to national, unlikely but maybe possible. You need A&P 1&2 & Micro. Each is 2 mos long at National. There are waitlists for the science prereqs from what I understand. See my previous post regarding what the minumum GPA requirments are. There are quarterly application periods at national. November, February, May, August this year for the July 2010, October 2010, January 2011, April 2011. You are supposed to be able to apply quarterly, but they run so far behind that you can only apply 2x per year lately. Also, you must have prereqs complete before applying.

I see. But i'm not attending National University right now. I'm actually at a community college & what I mean by taking my pre-req's over summer, I meant by doing it at a community college.

As far as admission goes into the university itself, what are the steps to applying to the university AND the nursing program? Because I do have more than 60 units from this community college, I actually just need 2 more pre-req classes for NURSING.

So you were saying that the applications periods are: May 2010 FOR Jan 2011 into the nursing program AND August 2010 for APRIL 2011 program?

Also.. like even though I'm at a community college right now, can I still apply to national university?

I'm sorry! I misunderstood, I thought your were talking about doing prereqs at national.

You need to become a student before you apply to the nursing program. All you need to do is apply. I think you can do that online or just go in to one of the campuses. I think it is $60. Then you can find out from your advisor what the exact date is for the next nursing application deadline after you have your grades for your prereqs. You will need to have all of your transcripts in to national. I'm not sure if it is with your nursing app or before you apply...

Sorry I'm not more helpful. I went to national for my 1st degree and prereqs so I didn't have to transfer anything but a few classes I took a long time ago. On national's website there is an application checklist that may be helpful?

Yes about the dates. I submitted my application in November 2009 for the July 2010 cohort. Should find out in a couple of weeks.

Also, yes, you can apply if you go to a community college. Just make sure the classes are equivalent. Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology all with lab. The prereqs are on the national website.

Hi everyone!

I've been following this thread since I moved to San Diego all the way from Florida about three months ago. I'm so glad to know that I'm not alone in this "waiting game" to get into nursing school. I really value everyone's advice on taking the ILR260 clep test, TEAS, and essay. I am currently waiting for all of my pre-reqs taken at a community college in Florida to hopefully transfer so I can apply for the May 2010 deadline. I am currently taking NSG322. I plan on taking the ILR260 test next month in March, along with the COM103 course. I've already attended the Pre-nursing forum in January. That should hopefully wrap up everything I need to submit my application. Hopefully all of my past prereqs transfer so I can hurry up and apply! If anyone has any helpful advice, I eagerly welcome it all! :D

Hi jStarS14! Welcome! Good luck to you, sounds like you are doing everything right :yeah:

I applied for the July 2010 program (november 09 deadline) and should hear in the next 2 weeks so my stomach is turning as we speak.

My advice is order the ATI test study guide for the TEAS test and get a score in the 80s.

Best of luck!

Thanks so much ExPharmaGirl!

I will be ordering that study guide very soon. All I have to do is get a good grade in Bio Stats so I can move on to the next hurtle. Our class will be over very soon so I'm anxious for that.

Good luck with your application! :D I'm sure by the sounds of your grades you have nothing to worry about! Keep us posted!

Did you test out of the ILR class? If so, how long did your results take?

Hi there jStar!

I tested out of the ILR260 class and I got my results in about 4 weeks! I was very surprised though because they told me it could be anywhere from 4-12 weeks! I think I was lucky though. They told me at the testing site that if they are pretty backed up with tests it could take a while. If I were you, I would get it done ASAP so you can allow for more time to get your results. Good luck to you and Ceemix!!!

Thank you twilight!

I actually have another question! I'm at a community college right now and they offer Human Anatomy AND physiology in one class, including lab. Do you know if it counts for NU?

Ceemix,

That is very hard for me to determine. I strongly suggest you get a hold of the Nursing Department and asking them. I don't know which classes satisfy their requirements. You need to ask them if that class transfers.
