Has anyone had any luck with applying at National University for their nursing program? I applied back in Oct 06 and have been waiting to hear from them. They are supposed to notify in 3 months. I have called and called and written email upon emails with no response really. Please, if anyone has applied and received some sort of letter, I would greatly appreciate your reply.
Thanks
Hi Jens619--just read back on this thread and you will get a lot of info. including some phone numbers for the RN program at NU. Good luck, I'm in the same boat..trying to get my pre-reqs done so I can apply. I just started my speech class and there are 3 other ladies doing the same thing who are planning to apply to NU. Gosh, I wish I had applied before the new rules went into effect
Hi April girls!
So, it was finally confirmed that I am in April cohort with you! Yay! I am so excited! But I am extremelly stressed out as well, like some of you :) because of all the things to get done by orienation. As far as the shots and physical exam is concerned, Nursing advisor said to bring proof of whatever is done, and the remainder can be done after the orientation, provided you finish everything before your first clinical. I didn't know there would be a background check and drug screening! Not that it's a problem - i've never done drugs in my life - just weird... Also, is it me, or are there uniforms super expensive?! I registered for CPR class on Saturday, Feb 7 at American Red Cross!~ (cause you need to bring CPR card to the orientation) Ok, girls, my name is Diana - looking forward to meeting you all on Feb 13!
NU organized the program in which the clinical courses (med-surg, peds, ob, leadership, etc) were offered the first 15 months then the remaining bsn classess, the last 8 months. Some people take the nclex early, since they would have completed the required courses in order to take the nclex, but they would be considered a non-grad. I think it would be too hard trying to study for the nclex while trying to take 1 month online classes. I think NU changed the program so its not an option to take the nclex early anymore.
Hello all,I just got accepted to NU a few weeks ago. :) I will be starting the July 09 cohort. I took all of my pre req's at City College. I have a 3.75 in my sciences, 3.5 overall. As for the placement test- I didn't fair that well on the math section, (I seriously could not remember very basic math, fractions and percentages...) I think I did OK on the algebra, it wasn't rediculously hard, though. I have taken stats already, and got an A. But in terms of hearing back, it took a good 3 months, and I called and pestered them, trying to get answers in the mean time. I applied right in the middle of their begining to restructure their program. So I am glad I applied when I did, because I have a feeling it's going to take longer to get in from now on. Especially since SDSU is not accepting applications for any academic programs for Spring 09.
Anyhow, I am very happy to have gotten accepted, but be warned, the people at admissions department are not helpful!! If you have questions, direct them to the nursing department only.
And one quick question- is it true you can sit for NCLEX, and be working as a nurse while still attending the program? I had not heard that before...

Interesting... I also heard that if you DO take the NCLEX early, it will not say on your license that you are RN BSN, only RN - and I heard that it will never change! Don't know if it's true or not... Not sure if it's worth it (taking it early) and you are right, seems like it would be too much to do at once...
thanks sandiegonurse2bat48
i hate the waiting game. i had to redo my bs at sdsu because i couldn't get into the nursing program! i know many that did go else where who kept applying for over 3 years and never got in the program. i just wanted to graduate and now that i have i want to try again but i feel the road blocks all over again like at sdsu. at least for me i only have to redo 3 more science classes and then do the dev psy and the nutrition...all can be done by dec 2009 to give me leverage to apply at ou in january 2010 or get a leg up at national same time frame while waiting to get in the traditional jc programs i plan to apply to at southwestern, grossmont and mt. san jacinto while considering the money to spend just getting evaluated for san marcos. argghhh!! i swear i can bang my head with all this. just because i took a litte break from school after graduating. if it wasn't a money issue and how to pay my bills or take care of my daughter (single mom here) then i would have done this a long time ago!!! but i hope i can more 411 from all of you when i finally get my questions answered from national.
Hey Diana! What a small world, apparently you know someone who works with my mom! Haha:chuckle I read your post that you are going to be taking your CPR class with the American Red Cross... I have mine through the American Heart Association and most places require it be through them. I'm not sure about National, but I would double check and make sure Red Cross is okay! Yes, the uniforms are totally expensive but we are provided with 4 peices and a cardigan right?! Do you think that will be enough or will you be ordering more? Anyways, talk to you soon!! :)
Hey Ashley! What a coincidence! :) Yes, my boss is good friends with your mom! She mentioned your name and I was like... well, could it be?...I guess it could!...Haha!. Hey, thanks for letting me know about the ARC vs. AHA CPR classes. I called and spoke with S. Mascolo a few min ago, and she said it dsnt matter where it comes from as long as it's a correct CPR class. My question to you is: did you take a regular basic adult CPR/AED class or did you have to take CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer? The lady at Am Red cross suggested i take the one for Prof. Rescuer, but I already paid for the other one... Which one do you have? Or does ANYONE here know?
Well the class I took was last summer at Palomar College. It was a 4 week class called "Advanced First Aid". Through the class I received my BLS card for health care providers through the AHA and a first responder card. If you can i'd go with the prof. rescuer one but if you've already paid for the basic one and it's too much of a hassle then i'd just do that. :) it's really easy you'll do great!

I spoke with S. Mascolo yesterday and she said I will be fine with the class I have registered for - she said she is 150% sure! :) So, I will stick with that for now. I also got my malpractice insurance yesterday - not bad, only $20.50 per year! :) Did you do your background check yet?

Hi Everyone!
I have been trying to get information to contact someone at National to ask what the process is (no one answers or returns my calls). I have just met with OU 2 weeks ago and for me to get in I would have to complete a few more pre req such as nutrition, dev psy and phsyiology and redo my anatomy and mirco all over to be competitive. Chem they have to see if converts to there requirement but I have to petition it in to be considered and might bring my gpa down (only got a C) I'm trying to find a nursing program Accelerated since I have my BS from SDSU that takes course forgiveness since OU will count all the times you have taken the pre req which will bring your gpa down. Does anyone know what i would need to do to start the process at National and how long is the wait time to find out if you got accepted. I cannot do anything at the moment until my physio class is completed. Afterwards I can apply to all the programs traditional and accelerated and do the waiting game. I figured if I get waitlisted on the traditional I might not have to spend my time taking classes all over again or to take them all over again while waiting to see if I can break in to the other programs. If I do good from now on then the gpa shouldn't be a factor anymore
so my question is can anyone give me a direct contact number since the one that is on the website, she never answers!
