National University San Diego Cohort 69

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

First off, I'm astounded by the cohort number I'm hoping to get into, LOL. The application deadline is November 12, 2021 with the program start date in April 2022. After browsing previous cohort pages here, I'm a liiiittle nervous.

Does anyone know if you can be in-progress for pre-reqs at the time of application? My final pre-req ends in December, a month after the application deadline.

Hi everyone, I'm Liz and I just got my acceptance email for Cohort 69! I was denied for the last cohort and waited about 8 days for their decision, so I'm very shocked to see this announcement only 2 days after my interview. I look forward to working with you all!

My Stats: GPA: 4.0 and TEAS: 93.3%

Did you get denied from the last cohort with the same stats or did you retake classes/TEAS? Also Congratulations! your stats definitely show how hard you worked ?

Hi everyone congrats to everyone admitted!! I received an alternate placement. I'm wondering what the odds are of being accepted? Has anyone been put as an alternate before?

Congrats again!!

Hi! Did it state in your email that you are an alternate? What were your stats? Hoping you get in!

Hello 444Kea,

I did not get an email stating I was an alternate it just had it listed next to my application. It changed from submitted to alternate. I have 3.8 and 88% with only volunteer experience.

Hope this helps!

Hi!

Thank you so much for the quick response, unfortunately I was denied ? That means having CNA experience 3.7 GPA and 88% TEAS put me below 45th place wow this is insanely competitive. Honestly if I retake the TEAS and can't get above a 95% I'll probably just apply to LA because some of the ones accepted had stats around or just below mine and this is my last application chance. :')

@Alexus DEliseo

Actually I find it weird that you have a 3.8 and 88% and was only an alternate. NU says experience doesn't matter but I had a 3.7 and 88% and another person with a 3.7 and 86% and experience in the medical field got accepted.

Hi 444Kea! Firstly, thank you so much! ?

As for the last cohort, I decided to try with a 4.0 GPA but only a 78 TEAS score because I honestly did not want to spend another $115 for a re-take. I also felt like I didn't do too well on the interview, therefore I knew my chances of getting accepted were low. Quickly right after, I decided to give the TEAS one last try to boost up my overall points for this cohort.

Also, before my interview for this cohort, I really tried to practice (mock interviews) & even wrote down short answers to the topics they sent out so that I was more prepared to answer. As for my actual interview questions, they were along the lines of - Why I chose National & Nursing, Importance of Diversity, Communication in the workplace, and my experiences of working as a CNA. Another quick tip is that by the end of the interview I asked questions like - What are some of the biggest challenges you have seen students face while in your program so that I can prepare to tackle these challenges early on? & Do you have any hesitations regarding me or my resume that I can address before we end the interview?

I completely understand and relate to you with having limited options as it was also extremely competitive and long for me to get into public universities / cc nursing programs, NU was kind of my last option. It’s so crazy because your stats are already so great, so definitely give it one last try and apply again. You’ve come so far, I know that you’ll get it next time! ?

Hi Alexus!

I'm not sure if you've seen this post before but I found this on the Cohort 67 posts by C68_NU

Congrats everyone!! For those who did get in, did they specify how long you have to accept/reject the offer? When I checked the portal it looks like I'm an alternate, so I'm just curious about the timeline for a final answer!

I was an alternate for cohort 67, I emailed the Nursing department and was told they could offer me a seat anytime up until 1 month before the start of the cohort. However, if you want to apply for the next cohort, you'd have to forfeit your alternate seat/spot and see a "denied" on your application to be able to apply to the next one. Hope that helps!

I wish you the best of luck for this cohort!

Oh wow thats great! Yeah, sometimes I get discouraged but I have to remember how far I am despite just being out of high school. Honestly my GPA flopped from the A&P 2 Lab and Microbiology Lab, I got B's since they were online and not really hands on which made it harder for me. I realized I might've been too hasty. I'm gonna apply to some city college nursing programs and while waiting on those, I'm retaking the labs and studying for the TEAS so I can apply for the May deadline.

Also, I had the same questions, I actually felt like I did really good. I spoke about my CNA experience a lot, how I saw burnout and how important self management is. I also talked about how good NU is overall because it is a more intimate school with very helpful faculty. Diversity I felt I did a bit meh on because I just kinda said something a bit general like how it's not just having many ethnicities and cultures rather the importance of inclusion. Also spoke about how I would always think about being respected by the patients but it was also great to be respected by the CNA's and my peers. The questions you asked were great, I hadn't done that because I ran out of time. Also I don't really have questions about anything else, thank you so much for listening to me and responding. I'm just gonna raise my stats and apply to LA because NU's clinicals are reaaaallllyyyy recognized and I wanna be extra safe ? Thanks so much again, hoping the best for both of us !

Hello Alexus,

I don't know much about your chances of being an alternate, but have hope. If nothing, then try again. Next time retake the TEAS to bring your score up. Good luck to you!

Hello 444Kea,

It's tough not getting accepted, but it looks like you are committed to doing everything you can to boost your GPA and TEAS. Good luck to you as well!

Interviews are nerve-racking. I felt that I didn't do so well on my interview, but I stayed calm and answered to the best of my ability. I would say preparation and practice saying out loud how you would answer different questions will help a lot.

Hi everyone, I just received my acceptance letter from NU for cohort 69! So excited to get started!
