National University San Diego-April 2012 Cohort

Published

Hi,

Anyone else on these threads applying to NU's April 2012 cohort in San Diego? How do you feel about TEAS V? I wish you all luck . I'm not so sure I'll get in :uhoh21:. I scored a 70.6% (slightly higher than National's average across the US and for our specific program), and I'm a fairly decent writer, but I have a C in A/P 1 (class and lab) and B's in A/P 2 (class and lab) and Micro (class and lab). I earned an A- in Biostats and have never reattempted any classes. I'm thinking of retaking the TEAS again and getting the ATI study guide this time around to try to bump my score up to the 80's.

Would love to hear from anyone else.

Congrats Phishin165 !!! Wasn't it nerve wracking opening up the email ?? Navyvet11 , I hear if your an alternate you stand good chances of getting in !!! Congrats.Maybe we should start a Facebook group like all the other cohorts have. :)

Congrats you guys :)

I got in too!!! Yay!!! I'm so excited!!

Congrats Jenn :)

Hi all,

Congratulations to everyone who got into Cohort 30!!! I also got my acceptance email yesterday and am so excited :rotfl:

I'm so glad the waiting nightmare is over. Also I sympathize with you that didn't make it in this time around; keep trying, you can do it, and one day you will be awesome nurse!!!! Anyways, I noticed nobody created a facebook page yet, so I did: National University San Diego Cohort 30. Congrats and good luck everybody!!!

Hi Littlebluecstar!,

Love your enthusiasm :) :lol2: CONGRATS by the way. I guess you have been reading along and finally joined? :) CONGRATS CONGRATS. I am still in shock! Anyway, thanks for being the first to create the FB group...I was thinking of getting around to it today (long work day and too much champagne last night) but thank goodness you did :) I just requested to be in the group. Talk to you in there soon!

And note to anyone who didn't make it or is reading hoping to in the future...

GPA- If you have more than one C, I recommend taking the class again to try to get an A to boost your GPA. Unless you are THAT much confident in your teas and essay both.

TEAS- Aim for over the average (over 70%). Over 80? Even better. Get the recent ATI study guide, do the practice tests (both online and in book), and perhaps purchase another one. I used McGraw Hill Nursing Exams one. You can find it on amazon for around 11 dollars. Be prepared for lots of chem questions that are not in any study book.

Essay- ANSWER the question! No matter how much you want to give other details, make sure to answer the question. It could be the best essay, but if it does not address the question then its not a good essay.

Good luck guys, just try try try again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am curious as to what the cut off is...I have a "C" in A/P 1 (lecture and lab) and "B"'s in A/P II, Micro, and an A- in Biostats. I can't re-take my A/P 1 course since my grade wasn't low enough. :/

I calculated my score pre-essay and I was at 62.75 (not great)...since I won't know my essay score for a few days I can only imagine I got a 3/5, or something to that extent. If I scored close to the cut off it will give me more motivation to re-take the TEAS (and essay, if need be). I believe if I get a TEAS score of 84% and get an essay score of 4/5 that will put me at a 83.19 overall score, which will hopefully get me for the next cohort. The cut offs will give me a better idea...anyone have an idea as to what the cut offs were?

Congrats again to everyone else!

JakeH , Why can't you retake A&P ? You can if you have a C. I don't think it matters what grade you have , you will just get deducted a bit for taking class over but a B or A grade will more than make up for that. I don't know what cut off is but the best way to ask Navyvet11, as she ( I'mAssuming she) was an alternate. So the cut off was right there. We should all know our essay scores soon through the student portal in a few days. I also hear you can call and ask. You can do it JakeH!! I think if you do well on teas and pour your heart into essay you will make it. Good luck !!!!

Does anyone have any more information on the "alternate" status, ie. how many are there, etc? I was selected as an alternate for cohort 30 and curious if anyone out there can bring my hopes up on getting in for the April start date, as an alternate. Thanks!

Thanks for the info and for the encouragement-I may just re-take A/P I while I study and wait to take the TEAS again (plus the class will be a good refresher for the life science and chem questions that we saw). Either way I'll get the study guide from ATI and will try again in a few months. Thanks for your support....I'm sure you'll be a wonderful nurse. :)

Hey fancy I was selected as an alternate too. I don't even know what to expect, if anything. Guess we are in it together... Lol. Good luck Jake! I'm still open to study sessions.

Fancyclancy: Getting an alternate status has pretty good odds I think :) I hear there are two alternate spots. If anyone decides not to go to NU (say some people applied to different schools and decided to go somewhere else) or does not show up on orientation, then you will get their spot. Can I ask what your stats were? GPA and TEAS? I am curious what the cut off was :)

JakeH: I think taking A&P again from my honest opinion will make you more competitive. Many people will say oh a C is fine and okay but if you have the time, then why not. Going from two C's to two A's or B's is several points in difference. And then like you said it will help with the teas as well.

YOU WILL MAKE IT in next time! Just do whatever you can now to increase your chances :) I would talk to your counselor ASAP about getting in that A&P class, its highly impacted. People wait up to a year for them! Just explain the situation to your counselor and if they are a good one, they can get you in! My wait was a year, and I talked to my counselor whom talked to their head counselor and they did some magic somehow and I got in the next month. Hopefully someone will drop and you can take their spot!

And good luck in getting into this cohort Navyvet11! I will be rooting for you :)
