National University BSN San Diego Cohort 82

Published

Hi All, I want to start this thread to help us prepare and ask questions as the BSN Cohort 82 application deadline is approach. We can use this to share stats, keep eachother up to date as deadlines approach, interview letters sent out, help in preparing for interviews and of course encouraging eachother along the way.

To start, I will be applying with a 3.838 GPA (nursing core classes) and 92 TEAS score.

For anyone who has gone through the process or knows others who have gone through, do you think this will be competitive enough?

Congrats on interviews everyone. When do you guys think decisions will come out next week? I'm so excited/anxious LOL.

I asked her and she said anywhere from 2days-1week depending on the amount of applicants 😬 The anticipation is soul-crushing

I'm hoping by Monday at the latest but it could be Wednesday since some interviews are tomorrow

I hope two days then. Did she say how many applicants there are?

She didn't state a direct number, but she implied the past few cohorts were fairly small in comparison to previous years. They only cut a small number of applicants from the last 2 cohorts. They also explained how they value the concept of diversifying each cohort (I.e. balanced number of males and females, age groups, and current work situation/family life). I glanced at the paper they used to grade the interview and it had some of my education history on it already (grades). That's pretty much all I am aware of.

I'm hopeful we will all get in! I wonder why they were so much less than previous years?  Maybe because other schools went to points based instead of waitlists so more options for students.

I totally didn't even see the interview grading sheet. I just saw they had my resume on hand.

Hi! Checking in how interviews went today?

Did anyone ask how many candidates applied/interview?

I had my interview on Monday, and I was really expecting them to ask me "Why Nursing?" but they didn't. They asked me I think 4 questions or variations of questions from the list you posted. One on diversity, another asking about professionalism, one on a situation a supervisor and myself didn't agree, and why National University. I had to be induced early so I had just given birth 5 days prior so I was EXHAUSTED, so I'm not sure how I came across but I did my best. One of the interviewers was an NP and one of the professors, and the other was an OB nurse.

Hi Krystle,

Congratulations on your new little one! You are a rockstar! I can only imagine how you must have been feeling having just given birth. I'm sure the fact you were there for your interview was beyond impressive to the panel. You definitely showed your dedication to pursue a career in nursing and what better group of compassionate people to witness your dedication. You got this! I'm sure you will recieve an acceptance email once they send them out. Hopefully all of us will and we can all support eachother on this journey!

I know I don't know you but if there is anything you need please let me know. 🙂 I am more than happy to help in any way I can. 🙂 I have 3 littles of my own and know how challenging it can be when you are trying to rest and recover from having a baby.

Aww thank you you are so sweet! There is so much to learn so I'd love to pick your brain. He's our first one and he just hit 1 week old, and this week has been a steep learning curve for us. Haha I told the interviewers that I was definitely committed! And I really hope we all get that acceptance email soon 🤞 The last cohort heard back pretty quickly after the last interview.

Congratulations on your new family member! I hope you'll recover quickly and recover well. I'm sure you'll get the hang of being a new mother very soon!

Like your interview, I was asked questions not on the list, and my interview was really short (about 15 mins). So I still have mixed feelings about it and didn't want to post too early in case passing my upset to others.

=========

I had two interviewers, while the other student at the same time slot as mine told me she had only one. I was asked how to handle the rigorousness of the program; then a question similar to why nursing; what's the difference in role between nurses and doctors; example of cultural diversity in my previous experience; and how to handle a situation when assigned a task that I don't understand but cannot get immediate clarification since the assignor is not available.

I didn't see any grading forms, just my resume. And I wasn't given any chance to ask any questions. I answered all the questions and talked warmly(I think) about my previous volunteer experience with them that's not directly related to nursing, and one of the interviewer shared her similar experience. The two interviewers decided that they had no more questions and let me go. Both of them escorted me to the door but there were no handshakes throughout the interview.

To be honest, I was very anxious throughout but I stayed calm on the outside. I actually got much more nervous now... especially after reading you guys' posts and ruminating on this experience after these two days.

Thank you! And to be honest, I think they were really rushed for time. I have a feeling we had the same interviewers, and one of them looked down at her watch near the end of my interview so I wouldn't take the no follow up questions personally. I think we all did better than we think we did! 🙂

Hello everyone, I had my interview yesterday and I believe it went well, it was about 30-35 mins if im correct. I was asked to tell her about myself, why national, what I would do if I had a problem with a professor, and how I would handle the stress of the program being as it is accelerated. I wasn't asked most of the questions I thought and prepared for but we talked about our children and being a young mom and juggling that lifestyle with studying and going to school at the same time. I had mixed feelings after because I too didn't have any opportunity to shake hands which I thought was different from any other interview or formal meetings I've had with people. At the end she seemed rushed or pressed for time as well so I tried not to take is personally and just chalked it up to them being busy and needing to stay on schedule. when I left I asked the front desk person how many more interviews there were and she said that Wednesday was the last day, and implied I was one of the last ones interviewed. I also asked how many spots/applicants and she said there are 40 total but 10 of those are saved for sharp employees that applied. So ultimately there are 30 seats available to those of us who are not with the sharp-NU partnership. I believe she stated that about 44 people interviewed total, so thats good news for us!

Thanks for sharing! Those are really good odds for us 🤞 I'm glad she shared with you about the number of interviewers. From the sound of it, if you didn't initiate the handshake you didn't get one. I initiated it and they both shook my hand, but maybe they were trying to keep their hands clean for all the people they interviewed LOL! It sounds like your interview went well.
