National University BSN San Diego Cohort 82

Published

Hi All, I want to start this thread to help us prepare and ask questions as the BSN Cohort 82 application deadline is approach. We can use this to share stats, keep eachother up to date as deadlines approach, interview letters sent out, help in preparing for interviews and of course encouraging eachother along the way.

To start, I will be applying with a 3.838 GPA (nursing core classes) and 92 TEAS score.

For anyone who has gone through the process or knows others who have gone through, do you think this will be competitive enough?

Hey all!

I went through the previous cohorts and comprised a list of questions that were asked at interviews that other candidates shared. Here is what I came up with:

How do you describe professionalism?

Why is diversity important?

Why national?

Tell us about yourself?

Why nursing?

How would you handle a difficult patient?

How will you communicate with a person that does not speak your language?

How will you handle the rigor of such a fast-paced program?

Talk about a time where you admit or accept a time you were wrong and how you learned from that situation?

How did you handle a conflict with a coworker?

What are the traits of a nurse?

Describe an experience where you did everything right but the outcome was negative and what you learned?

How would you handle a patient who is angry or threw up on you?

Hi REM7.

I haven't heard anything. I am hoping we will all hear some good news on Friday. Though I obsessively check my email every day, just in case they notify us early. LOL. I think you are right about the GPA and TEAS scores. I hope it's a smaller group to give more people a chance of getting in. It's crazy how competitive nursing programs are!

Keep us posted if you hear anything....btw. If you don't mind sharing your stats? No pressure of course. The info helps others who are applying to know their standing. I totally scoured cohort 81 as well to see where I stood. LOL.

Im at a 3.4 GPA and 87 on TEASE, by the looks of the numbers here and previous discussions its very competitive, may have to retake a course

I can see that as well. I think this may be able to reflect how few applicants they are having for this cohort.

With that being said, I still think this is somewhat ridiculous. Back in October last year, I was going to apply for the previous cohort 81, however the registrar's office was not working properly, and some of my transferred course credits were unable to be confirmed. I heard from my advisor that there were about a dozen students in a similar situation like mine, which means all of us would be applying for this cohort 82. And at that time they didn't do anything to extend the deadline for a mistake from their end, and wasted 3 months of all of our lives. Now this?

the same thing happened to me as well with the last two cohorts my pre-reqs were never entered and by the time I noticed and I had to jump through hoops contacting every department to get them manually inputted and finally submitting my application at the very last second.

Just got news today didn't get in. 87.3 TEAS and 3.4 pre nursing GPA wild how competitive this program has gotten over the last few years.

Sromelia,

I am so sorry to hear! It is crazy how competitive the program is. It seems this way for most schools. What is your plan moving forward? Your scores are hihg, maybe retake a class and/or TEAS? Mira Costa (ADN program) also has a lottery for acceptance vs point system, there are not many seats and a lot of applicants but it is worth a shot also.

I just got an interview invitation!! We got this!!

@Leila921

I applied to 3 other schools so hopefully I get into one. All my core pre reqs are As and Bs but it still makes my GPA 3.4 so IDK maybe I will retake one of them for another A. My spouse and I were supposed to relocate a few months back and I got accepted into a 16 month ABSN program in a different state that I had to turn down because the transfer got cancelled ! but maybe Cal state san marcos or one of the community colleges will work out 🤞🏽haha it's just hard hearing nurses at my work tell me about how they got in the 70s on the TEAS 5 or so years ago and were able to get into schools here but it isn't like that anymore 😅

I'm sorry that happened to you as well. It was such a rollercoaster for me that they didn't find my grades for more than 2 months until I basically yelled at my advisor, who then found it in their system within 2 minutes. My behavior was shameful but unfortunately the only thing effective.... I even got dis-enrolled from the university since it's been a while since my last course there, and had to re-enroll.

Hopefully the luck will turn for us this time. Good luck!!

Don't be discouraged by this one-time rejection. It's totally fine to retake some of the classes to get A. Some professors have tests that can be easier/harder for you depending on your learning style. So if you didn't do well on exams, you can always take the class from someone who give more grades on daily assignments, or vice versa. Most likely, you'll feel much easier when you repeat something you've learned before and perform better anyway.

For the TEAS, I think 87 is a pretty solid score. You just need to focus on a few things here and there if you decide to retry. It won't be that hard to get to a 90+ from where you are. Personally, I scored about 3-4 more in the test than my average mock ones simply because of luck.

I just checked me email and got asked to interview! Same day as everyone and at 9:20 am. Congrats everyone!!! 🙂
