Application cycle for 2014 is now open again...who is applying? What is the HPSA score for your facility? Please share your story if you're applying or are a previous recipient. My facility score is 17 and I know of 2 other NPs that are receiving it right now that work with me. I heard last year they were unable to fund anything below 14. I really hope I get it as I have massive amounts of loans but I am worried as the competition is stiff!

Which is more important - loan balance or facility score?

OMG I need this opportunity so bad. Do you have to already have a job before applying?
Facility score is more important than loan balance. The higher the score the better.

I am also wondering if you have to have the job before applying. I interviewed at an FQHC yesterday so just wondering what all it entails to get the loan repayment. I know there is only a certain amount of $$$ and it is based on the score. So if I am offered and accept the job, then would I go ahead and apply for it? Thanks!
Yes you need to have a job in a HPSA area (health professional shortage area) before applying. You can look on the NHSC website to see if a site in your area has any openings. If you are willing to relocate that would increase your chances even more. Good luck to you!

Be sure to find out the facilities HPSA score. I was at an FQHC last year but they had a low HPSA score so they didn't get any money.

How do you find scores of facilities?
You can look on the NHSC website and it will list your site and the score.
Are some simply unlisted?
No they are all listed. If you google NHSC Approved sites you should be able to find your state and a list of sites.

I just finished applying for the first time. Is it try that they don't get beyond Tier 1 for awarding funds? Does it make any difference if you are faculty, NP, or RN in terms of where you land in the order of things? Or is it only based on tiers and debt to income ratios?
