Hey everyone,

i just applied to the NCC 4 year program for spring 2020. I have 7 of the 10 pre reqs completed but only 2 of which are from NCC:

A&P 1 : A-

A&P 2: B

Psychology: A

Human Lifespan: A

Statistics: B+

english 102: A-

Microbiology: A

my TEAS grades are pretty solid : 97 in math, 83 in English, 89 in critical reading and a 67 in science which might hurt my chances. Based on past experience and knowledge would I have a decent shot at getting into the program? Thanks for reading and good luck to anyone else applying !

OMG Guys its wonderful y'all responded. I was deff second guessing myself to reach out. I was like what if they think I'm weird or something. Anyways I'm still weird but AYEEEE that didn't stop me! and I'm glad it didn't. so I'm going to also put this reach out on the other threads for Spring 2020. Theres like 5 different threads on here for NCC Spring 2020 so IDK what's that about. But I'm going to reach out there too. and then whoever emails I can send you my number... I don't want to post it on here just incase of weirdos LOL But yeah we can set up a whatsapp group chat with everyone who is interested and also create a facebook page for this Cohort! OMG that's the first time I've said that word. isn't that crazy (OK I'm rambling)

Also I registered for sextion B1 as well for Fall!! I looked at the past semesters to see who was teaching. I know its not guaranteed but I like to do my research! The clinical site for B1,B2,B3,before is south nassau. I live close so I went with that. Also In the schedule the department posted I think they listed the floors we will be on : D1E- heart failure and stroke, D2E- Telemetry, E2- Surgical, F3- Med Surg. I have someone on the inside and they told me what each unit contains. so hopefully that helps. I dont know what section gets what unit though.

If anyone has more information please post!

I'm in B1 too!! ?

Thank you for posting the units, I had no clue what that all meant! I signed up for B3, not sure why, but so far I'm the only one in the group. Is there a different Prof. for each of the four sections? Are we all in one lecture/lab class together? Looking forward to getting to know you all ?

Can anyone whose been accepted into the evening program give some insight on the nursing program. When did you begin clinicals? Did you have to first take the Empire courses? Please advise. Thank you

OK so I've never seen anyone come back on here and write about what to expect in the program so I've decided to. Im currently finishing up fundamentals, so I'm going to write about my experience while taking this class. first let me start by saying I'm in the Day program, so I can only speak on what I've experienced in the DAY program. another thing please don't ask me what classes should you take with fundamentals because that depends on one factor and one factor alone. YOU!! I know some people who have kids work full time and take multiple classes along the nursing classes and excel and I know some who can only take the nursing classes by themselves, and they quit their job to focus more on school. You do what's best for you and your mental health, and just because you do something differently does not make you less of a student or does not speak on your self-worth! OK, enough rambling now let's get into it!

Congratulations you got accepted into the program so now what? the way this program works you have to take empire class(es) before you can start your nursing course. I know some of my classmates took all 3 empire classes together (His 3345, aging and society & western Civ) so they can get it out of the way. if you have the finances and you're good for it then I say why not BUT I personally didn't do it that way. I found the courses to be very time-consuming and a lot of writing which is not my strong skill. Some people (me) went in thinking oooh I love history this will be a breeze let me assure you it was one hell of a HOT DRY *** BREEZE coming from the devil himself (not exaggerating the slightest).  also, keep in mind if you do decide to drop the class you get one more chance to retake it and then you're kicked out. sooo again DO WHATS BEST FOR YOU

Now for fundamentals: DOSAGE CALCULATIONS!! & VOCABULARY! you are required to know how to do basic math by hand. No calculators are allowed!! I repeat NO CALCULATORS ARE ALLOWED. so that means learning your decimals, learn how to do long divisions by hand, learn conversions like kg,mg,ml,gtts,etc.. you got Google, Youtube at your fingertips to show you how to work out problems so utilize your resources. if you get the concept down you will be able to apply to any problem! and if you do it early then less stress on you! occasionally they will drop a pop quiz on you just to make sure you're staying on top of it!

secondly, take the first few weeks when you're in lab learning your skills seriously. don't just learn the skills to pass but really learn because you will build on them as your progress throughout the program! and when you're in clinical and it's just you and your patient you want to actually know what you're doing!

Thirdly, get, and try to stay organized! print your PowerPoints out& take notes. you have 4 exams and 1 cumulative final. trust me, it's important! I got a 2-inch binder used 4 dividers labeled exam 1, exam 2, exam 3, exam 4, Final ( you will learn new material for the final) put your powerpoints in order according to the exam, so that way, in the end, you have one thing to study from. form study groups don't be shy to ask questions. what you put in is what you will get out! that is one quote that has remained true for me while in nursing school! PRACTICE QUESTIONS PRACTICE QUESTIONS will be your best friend!

AS of now during covid, we're on campus 2 days a week and zoom lecture 2 days. the first month or so the day for clinical we were on-campus learning skills and then we got the go to the hospital. Things might change for upcoming semesters sooo...

you will have homework assignments to complete, concept maps, study for exams, prep for clinical, and other things sooo it may sound overwhelming just take one assignment at a time! GET a good PLANNER (watch Youtube videos on supplies recommendations) and speak only positive affirmations to yourself!

that's all I have for you. hope this helps anyone who reads it & good luck!
