Nassau Community College - Fall 2018 (Evening)

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello,

I decided to start a thread for those who have been accepted into Nassau's evening session for this fall. There aren't many of us so I figured this would be a nice way to get to know each other before September and give each other advice. I personally, have no idea what to expect and will appreciate any information and advice. I am planning on working on the 2 page autobiography we need to bring to our interview. Anyone start it yet? Is there something specific they will be looking for? Also, anyone know what type of stethoscope they're going to purchase?

Look forward to hearing from you guys!

Nancy

That's really convenient since you will get home in only a few minutes. I live in Levittown so it won't be that bad. I think we find out all that good stuff at orientation. I'm curious to find out about the uniforms...all I know from prior threads is that they use some company located in Hempstead.

Yes, they use the place in Hempstead on Fulton st.. it already has the NCC logo the jacket... can't purchase anywhere else. And nursing shoes you can find elsewhere cheaper. Last time I wore some white shoes I found on amazon for 25 dollars and they were pretty comfy.

I believe Winthrop is the only hospital for the evening program. They don't give you an option like in day. I work in Garden City, so my commute will not be bad at all.

Hi All! I work at Winthrop Hospital and the evening program comes to my unit which is 3 Main. It's Telemetry/Med-surg. We also have psychiatric patients as well. I usually see them from 6pm-10pm at nigh. They also rotate on multiple units there because I spoke to a girl who challenged the program via advanced standing (LPN to RN). I heard from our secretary, her friend is in the program and she got South Nassau Hospital. I'm unsure if she is in the day or evening program though.

I'm still waiting for the official letter before I start my auto-bio. Being accepted still hasn't hit me yet lol.

Does anyone know what hospitals are used for the evening clinicals?

Agreed! Still doesn't feel real at all. Does everyone have the same time for May 21st?

I didn't receive mine in the mail yet either! I think the email is what really counts though because it looks like an electronic copy of what they mail out anyway. Still hoping I get the physical letter soon though!

Hi Nancy,

I agree it looks like they faxed the copy of the actual letter that is going to be mailed.

Just to give everyone a heads up I was on the NCC website yesterday and was looking at all the tabs for nursing and saw this (from the website):

CPR Certification

Prior to admission to NUR 101, students must submit a copy of current certification of competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the Health Care Provider. After February 16, 2016 the BLS Provider card takes its place.

Just want us all to be prepared and informed and not missing anything!

Health forms: http://www.ncc.edu/campusservices/health_services/health_requirements_programs.shtml (not sure if they will be mailing these to us with our letters)

I'm sure we all will find out more info on May 21st.

Congratulations to you all and look forward to meeting you guys :)

Mine says 11 am

Mine is 11am also. It's actually my birthday so I'm happy I have an excuse to take off of work! lol How long do you guys thing the interview is? Maybe I should do a half day at work.

Registration day you will find out..

Anyone receive an email if they applied through admissions? I was told over the phone that I'm accepted but no email yet......

Admissions only sent out the letters. So you wouldn't get an email. That letter will be the same as the email others got. It will tell you date and time for registration/ advisement/ interview. Dress business casual or business.

Does anyone know what color scrubs they'll want us to get?

I believe that we need to get specific ones that have our school name on it. I think we find out at out orientation.
