NAP trying to become RN, what to do

Published

So this is my first official thread! Hi everyone =D any how I am a new grad and a new RN (passed with 75 questions whoop whoop) however, now I have moved onto what seems to be the most difficult task of all, the job hunt! I live in Las Vegas which as some may know is horrible right now! The good news is that as a student I worked as a nurse apprentice and thought I had a good rapport with the director of the med/surg floor. I called her once I had passed NCLEX and she informed me that they were having a meeting on new hires and to give her a call next week. I have called and left a voicemail and a message with someone who answered her phone. Unfortunately, so far I've gotten no reply. Any advice one what my next move should be?

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Keep calling!!

Hello.

Have you researched open positions at that facility? Dont call the Director again. She has your messages. What you can do is research open positions at the facility. Look in the facility at their internal job postings. Send a resume to the Director and one to HR. In your cover letter gently remind the director who you are and how you enjoyed working on her floor. Share that info to HR in a different way. You may not get hired on that floor but once in, you can always tranfer when an opening comes available.

Also apply to other facilities. Even if the position asks for previous experience. It worked for me once...They were willing to train...Sell yourself! There are many places on the net to get examples to write a winning resume. Never put in resume you r a new grad. They will know by work exp. and by seeing your graduation date. If your grades were excellent add those.

With your BSN u already have a jump on those who do not.

Read interviewing questions. They too can be googled.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much for this advice! I have applied at every place I can think of along with where I was a NAP. I will also send the director a copy of my resume, I had never thought to do that. I think my resume is good but figure it wouldn't hurt to post it on here....any feedback would be awesome. Also I haven't written a cover letter before, any pointers? Unfortunatly with all the automatic replies that say you are not qualified I am thinking it would be best to move...or join the military as a nursing officer. Any advice on this? Automatic thank you to any advice =D
