  1. I realize I might have to start somewhere un-awesome or move, after work everyday I research other states ect and apply. I figured the military would be a good route the way it was presented to me but I don't know much about it thus the thread but according to the thread its just as competitive if not more, I plan to meet with the recruiter again since I have now passed NCLEX. My sole reason for getting into nursing was to do critical care (the love for it has only grown stronger after rocking the ER,ICU and NICU during clinical, and yes I was told I rocked these areas) and that's just impossible if you don't get experience in a hospital...hopefully one day I can get there. You mentioned I may need to update my resume...below I am posting it any input from anyone would be appreciated. Resume (keep in mind it looks less sloppy in Word) T(full name) Young, BSN, RNaddress ♦ Las Vegas, NV 89129 ♦ phone ♦ email Objective My objective is to obtain a full time position as a Registered Nurse at _____, where I hope to establish my nursing practice and continue my education. 2. Standard recruiter that apparently didn't spin it to me straight, starting to think I should just consider going back to school I suppose there is just no opportunity for new grads. The only people I have seen get a position are those who have known someone, being a nurse was def spun to me the wrong way too...for the past 5 years all I have heard is that I will for sure have a job =/ that and the fact that I love nursing. New question anyone know of something I can go back to school for and actually get work?
  3. When we had spoke the recruiter had said that experience wasn't needed because of my BSN and I just had to pass NCLEX to be able to join. Also that I would def get my job, possibly a bonus and all that jazz and that they needed more of us. Liking the advice its good to hear about the good and the bad please keep it coming =D
  4. I am not working as a RN yet but have dealt with difficult patients as a nurse apprentice I love the note pad idea!
  5. New grad here, annoyed with lack of opportunity for new grads, so I decided to meet with an air force recruiter (finally someone who wants me!) but I am a little scared. I am young and so many new things are happening ahh! The recruiter said I would join as an officer have 4 weeks of boot, 6 weeks of training and a high chance of being located at a place of my choosing. Any how anyone with any experience....is this a good deal? Should I take it and run with it? Or was is a bad experience for you? Advice appreciated =D
  6. Us new grads are not alone! I work as a home health aide right now which is horrible pay but better than nothing. But to be honest it can be extremely demeaning when some clients call me their "house keeper" instead of their care giver. I am a registered nurse with a BSN who graduated with honors for crying out loud please don't call me a house keeper not that I have anything against anyone who is a house keeper but I worked my butt off for my title. Here in Las Vegas if you don't know anyone your going to be hard pressed to find a RN position (its a fact someone in my program who did poorly but passed and who was in my opinion lazy, for example, always trying to bribe the instructor into letting her go home early from clinical ect already has a job because her family is well established here!) Its so depressing, luckily my fiance works nights and I can enjoy my pitty party by myself def tired of feeling like a loser! and crying because I can't find a darn job, I have decided to no longer check my emails for rejections and hopefully if someone wants to hire me they decide to call. So here is to the job hunt and hoping that something good happens soon, and sending out hopes to anyone else who is in my current position. =D FYI I am not a woe is me person normally but after spending 4 days filling out over 100 apps and getting most of them replied to automatically with the "your not experienced enough" comment its really just frustrating.
  7. I had considered calling her again, but I don't want to become the person she is irritated by =/
  8. Thank you so much for this advice! I have applied at every place I can think of along with where I was a NAP. I will also send the director a copy of my resume, I had never thought to do that. I think my resume is good but figure it wouldn't hurt to post it on here....any feedback would be awesome. Also I haven't written a cover letter before, any pointers? Unfortunatly with all the automatic replies that say you are not qualified I am thinking it would be best to move...or join the military as a nursing officer. Any advice on this? Automatic thank you to any advice =D Resume (keep in mind it looks less sloppy in Word) T(full name) Young, BSN, RNaddress ♦ Las Vegas, NV 89129 ♦ phone ♦ email Objective My objective is to obtain a full time position as a Registered Nurse at _____, where I hope to establish my nursing practice and continue my education. 9. My study group was amazing. It was a group of 5 very focused ladies! They help because the way someone else explains something you aren't getting will spring to life during your exam! Often times would I think oh goodness I am glad so and so brought that up...or helped me understand that. Also on days where you just wanna say blahhh a scheduled study session will keep you on it. Plus, no one gets the difficulty of nursing school like your fellow nursing students yes socializing takes place and its needed to keep sane! I graduated with honors as did 2 others in my study group and am officially an RN =D
  10. So this is my first official thread! Hi everyone =D any how I am a new grad and a new RN (passed with 75 questions whoop whoop) however, now I have moved onto what seems to be the most difficult task of all, the job hunt! I live in Las Vegas which as some may know is horrible right now! The good news is that as a student I worked as a nurse apprentice and thought I had a good rapport with the director of the med/surg floor. I called her once I had passed NCLEX and she informed me that they were having a meeting on new hires and to give her a call next week. I have called and left a voicemail and a message with someone who answered her phone. Unfortunately, so far I've gotten no reply. Any advice one what my next move should be?
  11. I passed with 75 questions too....studied every other day for about a month 1 to 2 hours and just used ATI that I had already paid for from school. (Totally thought I would bomb the exam due to having to work full/overtime) ....It seems like NCLEX is made out to be worse than it is, granted I graduated with honors and never got below a B on a single exam. Not sure if it was just me but its easy, then again that is only my opinion. For anyone who maybe freaking out as I know I was before taking THE BIG EXAM, calm down enjoy a bubble bath (only if your not prone to UTI's that is =D )
