Unemplyed nurse with 5 years experience
LTC usually has rollovers and need staff...prn for a local LTC chain and u could get your 40+ hrs a week at several close facilities (the facility i work at has 5 facilities w/in 60 minutes of my house awa closer) u may not get insurance, but you make that up in a higher rate of pay. U can work as much or little and u get to c if full time come if it is a good fit for u. I should have done this!! PRN will allow u 2b picky (u need to b happy in your job, being picky is not a bad thing) It will come!

LTAC interviews
WOW tyvin You had a test? (There was some sort of 'tests' in my hire packet...comon sence q&a). Not that this works but... Researh the company well...ie How have they fared in previous state & federal inspections? How long have the Administrator & DON been at the facility? What is their Medicare ranking (1 to 5 stars out of 5) Why are they looking to fill this opening? How long have other employees worked there? Things you may get asked: Why did you choose us? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? The dreaded 'So tell me about yourself' What did you like least at your last job? Tell me a time when you delt with an irate family member/resident? What was the outcome?

What was the outcome? They may ask you things like...what would you do if in the middle of your pill pass you find someone who despirately needs 'cleaned up', one cna is at lunch, the other is with a resident. What would you do? You just came on shift and you were not told that resident X has a huge bruse on her forearm(it was not there yesterday during your shift)...What do u do? ....look at charted notes/incident reports ....u can ask the cnas if they know something...ask supervisor... if all those r a bust u measure & do incident report..(reporting to state agencies may even need done...) .....Just a few, there are so many more...you may find some by google search, though they can't be memorized as other than the 5yr question no 2 interviews are never the same... They usually want to know you will try to be accomodating, if u say youll do somthing, you do it and that u r willing to learn. (and that u will follow or look up policies and procedures vs closing your eyes to a situation on your shift because the person b4u closed theirs....) **Residents Rights** and I think its called the purple book, good to know...as a resident has the right no matter if demented to refuse meds and treatment. (trying again l8r or getting a nurse they know l8r often helps). They have a right to fall....how ever this needs much documentation that everything has been done to prevent the fall... Whew!!! Just b u! Good luck!! Each Interview is a learning process to prepare u for the next. Dont beat yourself up!

PICC Line Certification Course Info Needed
Hello. Am hoping some of orig. posters see this. I too am in the same boat as the girl from Ohio, as NO PICC classes. I have spoken to BARD and they are willing and able but our facility/company does not order their products directly from them...they pay more am sure thru 3rd party... Am studying for the CRNI to increase market value of self to break into this area. If I take the "online" test at BARD, will this help? Am willing to do anything as am very interested in this field. I really want to place PICC's and Midlines. Any help advice welcome!! Thanks! Kim [email protected]

Clinical Nurse Specialist degree in Vascular Access
sgbpiccrn....I have read areas on this site for some time but never posted or chatted...I too am studying for my CRNI exam. Am awaiting my books from INS to arrive. Did you use anyones 'study' prep books, CD's? I would love to add your notes to my collection! There is no agencies in my area (Pgh, Pa) who teaches PICC or Midline insertion classes. Am trying to locate companies in the area that are wanting a CRNI prepared nurse that will do on the job training. Thanks for any help! Kjwrn [email protected]

NAP trying to become RN, what to do
Hello. Have you researched open positions at that facility? Dont call the Director again. She has your messages. What you can do is research open positions at the facility. Look in the facility at their internal job postings. Send a resume to the Director and one to HR. In your cover letter gently remind the director who you are and how you enjoyed working on her floor. Share that info to HR in a different way. You may not get hired on that floor but once in, you can always tranfer when an opening comes available. Also apply to other facilities. Even if the position asks for previous experience. It worked for me once...They were willing to train...Sell yourself! There are many places on the net to get examples to write a winning resume. Never put in resume you r a new grad. They will know by work exp. and by seeing your graduation date. If your grades were excellent add those. With your BSN u already have a jump on those who do not. Read interviewing questions. They too can be googled. Good Luck! kjwrn bsn

Point Click Care Question!
Thanks...here is the problem albeit good as a control measure...only the Medical records dept will have access to entering the ICD-9 numbers...we only have the 'drop' down list that they previously entered to choose from...and I was trying to avoid leaving it blank or placing 'HTN' in that column....(knowing that seizure meds are not just used for seizures....) Thanks!

Point Click Care Question!
Re: Point Click Care Have Question about Point Click Care! When entering MD orders in Batch entry (Co is just starting/training in system) when you get done with the med our 'paper' orders have the reason for the med such as constipation, HTN, CHF, etc.) When charting this a drop box pops up and you have to choose from the above dx's for reason med is given...(not everything is entered as I found constipation issing from 1 dx...but...do you choose the best fit? for instance...a pain med on our paper orders states it is given for 'shulder pain'....shoulder pain was not a listed dx/ICD-9 but osteoparosis was...(yet there is an ICD-9 for shoulder pain as I saw it on another patient...) for all I know this person's pain could be muscle related and not bone.... Won't I be aking more work for the Med Records Dept when they have to go back and fix these? I asked this Q today and one of the Med Records girls got tisky...I'd rather do something right the first time...and am not getting answers...also...I have been out of nursing for some time and have never passed many of these meds...still learning them...I guess Ishould have a med book handy when doing this? Am confused and would appreciate any help and/or tips as I am not getting it from the staff. I looked for tools to this system online but have been unsuccessful to date. To make atters worse, when the 1st training took place (overview) everyone who should have been there, like myself was not scheduled. The directions we were given are written as if you know what you are doing already...not for a newbie to the system.... Appreciate any/all help! Thanks KJW

this is my 8th time taking this exam andi am on chp 25 using the saunders 4th edition
I too failed on my 1st try. I made the mistake of going in the afternoon with a group from school. As not everyone will pass/fail with the same amount of questions, and everyone answers questions at a different rate of time...I paniced when 1 by 1 those I knew were done. The 2nd time I went by myself, took a pack of Bubble Yum and chomped my way to a 75/PASS. Now after 11 Years out of school and 5 away from pt.care...I find myself needing to once again take the test. If you have not done so before try Suzanne's NCLEX REVIEW. GOOD LUCK ALL!
