Name hospital and salary--everywhere

Hi, everyone seemed to be enjoying the name your hospital and salary thread from NY and I noticed others would like to participate and know about other states. So everyone join in. Name your hospital, starting rate, and how much experience you have and your specialty. :Melody:

I work in hospital in Portland, Oregon - starting salary around $24/hr.

I think it's important to discuss salaries because there are so many times I come across people who are considering nursing for the money. There are other professions that are far less stressful, less physically and emotionally demanding that pay better. Somehow there is this expectation that nurses are making a lot more than the $25-30/hr norm. Most people are quite surprised to find out that their expectations are the exception and not what the majority of us earn.

I can not think of another job where you can get a two year degree and make 50k plus a year right out of school. Not to mention the room for advancement. Get out of school work one to two years in a hospital and then you can write your own ticket. I am going to start my BSN as soon as I graduate and the hospital who is paying my tuition now will pay for it. I want to be a midwife and they will pay for the whole thing!!!!

Wow US pays well. In New Zealand new graduate pay is NZ$20per hour before tax. Thats equivalent to around $10 US.

West Texas, $19.25 base pay with night and weekend differentials as an RN. Not sure what the diff's are as I haven't started working yet. Plus I'll get a $5000 sign on bonus. Looking at others salaries, it's really not bad considering our cost of living around here is pretty low.

OMG...are you serious??? That's only a couple of dollars more than minimum wage.....that's awful!!!! Is the cost of living low there????? Wow..I am speechless!!!:uhoh3:

Forget standard of living if your single, live a student life for a few years working in the higest payed city for RNs, save to buy a house !

then move to a lower standard of living location.

So SF BAY area pays the most it seems? It can't possibly be 36 to 40 an hour for new grads is it? someone please clarify.

It is true. I am a new grad here, just started, and am making 44/hr with the evening differential. ;)

western Mass, union 35 per hour base,15 years experience

Specializes in Orhto, med/surg.

At Tri City Medical Center in Oceanside, CA (which is 20 miles north of San Diego) I made $16.20 an hour as a new grad RN in 1999. They gave me nothing for my 7 years LVN experience. I could look forward to about 2-3 % per year raises. In Seattle, I started at $30.00 in 2002, and they gave me credit for 50%of my LVN experience. We get 4-6% more each year. With much better bennies I might add.

Isn't it depressing to think with 23 yrs experience as an RN, in my current position I'm making less than the average new grad?

Don't feel like the lone ranger--I have 24 years in the healthcare field, 18 years as a nurse. I am currently in LTC, base salary is 23.69 with 50cent shift diff for nights. Even when I worked management, the highest salary I made was 24/hr. I was recently offered 34/hr for a job that carried a high pt to nurse ratio and had a friend working there making 50/hr weekend option and quit after a month because the load was just too much and not worth the body aches and the crap she put up with. I'm not in it for the money either, but after this many years and a lot of experience it would be nice to be well compensated, instead it looks like I am making the same wage as a new grad. I need a new career....

SF Bay Area pay is nice. I am on the peninsula. I have been a nurse for almost 10 years, I work med/surg currently. The current base pay for new grads is 38.42/hr here. I am up to 50.18/hr now. I only made 27/hr in Glendale, CA in 2005.

We are currently getting 3% raises every 6 months, thank you CNA. I cleared over 100 K for the first time in my life last year!! Not bragging, just very grateful to be almost out of debt and saving for a condo.

For total honesty, my rent is 1500/month and when I buy a condo my mortgage will be around 3000/month. It is worth it to me to live here.

When i left Texas in 1999 I was making 10.75 an hour as an LVN, 25 cents an hour for doing IVs, moved to Australia where i made 21.08 for EEN plus 12.5% evening shift plus 1.5 for saturdays and 1.75 for Sundays, 20% for nights. Just up graded to RN-BSN working in private hospital for 22.7596 an hour as a new grad. Public Hopsital offered $22.08 to start. I get a 4% pay increase in July and another in Feb 2008. Maybe i should consider moving back to America...... Just have to pass state boards. yukie....

The price of living in australia is gas is 1.16 a litre, pay rent by the week here ( my rent is $250.00 A WEEK), my tags for my car cost 283 for 6 months....To buy a house is 300,000 plus.... must reconsider options now. Can anyone give me some good sites on studying for state boards?

thank you

Mary LPN/LVN, EN.EEN, RN, BSN

My first year out ICU/ER 1998, San Ramon, CA. starting pay $36/hr w diff.

I will begin Nursing school in the fall, but I was wondering with all of the hourly wages being stated, what is an "average" work week for an LPN and RN(assuming that you want to work full time)? I am guessing that 40hours a week is shy of what you really work?
