Hello all you SC nurses -I will be a new RN grad in May 2006 and my family & I are thinking of relocating to N Myrtle Beach. My aunt said there is a fabulous hospital there, so I was wondering if you of ya'll could give me some info. Also, I am very interested in psych nursing and was wondering what facilities I might look into for psych nursing.
I really appreciate any and all advice you can give me!
Thanks!

Hi Kristen,
We are moving to that area (20 mins west in the country). Let me know what you find. I was there 2 weeks ago. The Grand Strand Hospital (on rte 17) VERY Large hospital. Probally has psych. Conway Hospital 20 mins west has a large hospital as well and you would be going against the traffic if you work a morning shift. I think there is a hospital in Little River as well but I have not seen it yet. Feel free to PM me with any questions. I can't wait to go and be done with this winter snow.
Dear LoriRN911,
Thank you so much for your information. I was on anywho.com trying to look in the hospital categories and couldn't find that much. I did find a few facilities that I think are for psych - of course I cannot find the names now that I'm typing this. I will send that to you later. Where are you living now? We're in Goldsboro, NC which is about 3 1/2 hours away and we are dying to move. Too bad I have about 12 months left. Anyway, good luck to you and hope to talk to you soon!
Kristen

I live in N Myrtle Beach. Grand Strand Regional is in Myrtle Beach, a 30 minute drive from me. It's not a BIG hospital though. It does not have a psych floor. I have done clinicals in every hospital within 50 miles of here. Conway is pretty ok and its a 30 min drive. Grand Strand is very high tech and therefore a lot pf people I know that work there say it's NOT laid back at all. I personally love Loris Community Hosp. People there are so friendly. Not high tech but a nice atmosphere. Georgetown Hosp is way too far to drive to from NMB. There is not an actual hospital in Little River, but there is an emergency facility, Seacoast Medical Center, and they are looking to add inpatient beds in a year or so. There is a psych place in Conway called Lighthouse Care Center. I actually got a call from them recently but I already had took an office job. There are no hospitals here with an actual psych floor, these hospitals just arent big enough.

Hi mtngrl,
Thanks for the info. How are these hospitals for Surgery? I am a surgical nurse and would like to stay in this field of nursing. How's the pay there? I have 13 years experience in nursing.
Thank you for any info you could give.
Lori
Where are you moving to, mtngirl?
To the mountains of course! Most likely Tennessee. Had planned on NC mountains for years but real estate is just too high there. I was born in Asheville and several times a year my husband and I visit the mountains. We can't wait, but it will be a few months yet. There are some decent hospitals in eastern Tennessee that I am considering. Can't wait to get away from the heat here...it's supposed to be in the 80's this weekend. And I don't even like the ocean!
Hi MTNGRL
Like I said, I have not seen the place, been several years sice I was in MB, but friend said the facility was a beauty. I don't know if she toured it or what. I think should would live somewhere in the middle of all of these areas, I don't think she wants NMB. Just my guess but she mentioned a place in SMB she and hubby looked into renting or something. I am too afraid of a hurricane to move that close to the water. I like my mountains too. Thanks for the reply.
