Myrtle Beach - pay and opportunity

Nurses General Nursing

Hi all,

I am considering moving to the Myrtle Beach area in the next year, and I'm curious to know what pay is like at the hospitals there. I'm a med/surg nurse, specifically ortho, neuro surgery, and telemetry, and have about 4 years of experience. Also wondering how competitive the job market is there. I'm coming from Oregon, so I know that pay will be considerably lower in SC. Thanks for your input!

Specializes in Registered Nurse.

I am also curious about the jobs in this area. I just looked the pay up-- Sorry....the lower number may be $48,000 to $76,0000 (approx)

Specializes in Palliative, Onc, Med-Surg, Home Hospice.

I don't really know how competitive the job market is in Myrtle Beach, but keep in mind that there are only a couple of hospitals in the area (that are near by). I checked Grand Strand Medical Center and there are 44 jobs listed for nursing (I am not sure what all those jobs are though). I also don't know how much more expensive it is to live in Myrtle Beach compared to other parts of SC. Except Charleston, that is bloody expensive.

Are you dead set on Myrtle Beach? Upstate SC is beautiful, we are hurting for nurses, and personally, I love the mountains. Pay is decent for the cost of living (unless you live in parts of Greenville County).

BTW: I made $69,000 last year. But I make more than the average nurse as a PRN nurse. Average wage seems to be around $50,000-$70,000.

If you do decide to move to SC (anywhere), welcome, I think it's a beautiful state.
