My 1st military physical

Published

Processing my Army Nurse Corps reserve application right now and go for my physical next week. Just wanting to know...

1. How long does the physical take (hours)? I know it starts at 06:45...

2. What should I wear to go to the physical?

3. What is involved with the initial military physical?

Specializes in Advanced Practice, Home Care, Med-Surg,.

Realnut- The tour and physical is an awesome experience- well it was for me. I do not live in Texas(I live in MO)nor did anyone that was there with me which was a group of about 20 or so. Anyway it is something I guess your recruiter has to request. The Army will fly you to Texas, put you up in a hotel and reimburse you per diem travel expenses. It is for AMEDD perpsectives. I was with a group that included nurses, PAs, physicians, therapaist, dietician, veterianrian, and dental students. So you get to tour where you will be at during OBLC, a major army medical center(BAMC) and "The Center for the Intrepid". You arrive on a Sunday and leave on a Tuesday. Part of the tour includes seperating into your branch, then you get to tour hospital floors, burn center, ED with an active duty nurse and talk to a few ad nurses. In the evening the group-including the recruiters- hangs out, goes out to eat and relaxes. It was a really good time. It was nice getting to see things in person and visiting San An before going to live there for 2 months. My recruiter traveled with me. Anyway if it is an option for you maybe ask your recruiter if they have any slots left for this year.

If I ever hear the AF is spoiled again, I'm giving the person a printout of this post. What a great experience for potential Army officers!

So I'll own up to thinking about that as soon as I hit the "submit" button....:p:typing

Still, if the AF made it a little more snuggly I think they'd snap up some of those on the fence - especially RNs with experience and families, you know?

Wow! thanks for the info again. So hoping I'm not PMSing the week of my physical. That'll add another 5 lbs. Definitely don't need that! I'll certainly ask about the tour at Ft. Sam Houston. Everyone does nurse corps reserve OBC there?

Yes, I believe so.

Forgot to add - if you get there when it starts, you're already late. PLEASE PLEASE ensure you're there AT LEAST fifteen minutes before they tell you to be. In the military, fifteen minutes early is on time, and on time is usually late.

Specializes in EMT, ER, Homehealth, OR.
