I just went to an open house at a local Lincoln Tech. I know there is a ton of bad things about LT on these forums, but wanted to check it out for myself.
Here are the highlights:
1. The school is inside a shopping mall. I am not kidding. It is on top of a Nordstorm.
2. The facilities are very nice, as the facility (as well as the enitre mall) are brand new. You can still smell the construction dust in some places.
3. The woman who gave the tour was very nice, but the admissions rep I am dealing with over the phone is very high-pressure (think car dealer or real estate agent).
4. Self-Study: I noticed that most of the LT threads here mention there is a lot of self-study, which I am not that crazy about. For the most part, I think this is correct. When I looked into the classrooms, I rarely saw an instructor in the front of the classroom teaching. Instead all of the students were sitting at long tables reading their textbooks. Some were talking to each other. In contrast, when I went to a different for profit school 2 weeks ago, I saw the instructors teaching. They were giving a presentation on an overhead projector. But I did not see this at LT.
5. Cost: I still have not gotten the cost of the program. I will get this info this week.
If anyone has experience with LT eithr as a student or just a prospective student, please feel free to share your insights.
Hi.....I am supposed to go to the Moorestown location of LTI today at 2pm for information. After reading the reviews, I am so discouraged. I recently lost my job of 14 years on May 3rd 2010. I have no college degree and it seems almost impossible in todays times to get a job without some kind of degree or training. I am 39 and after discussions with my husband decided I want to go to school for nursing. My feelings were if I become a nurse, I can gain employment anywhere and never again have to worry about losing my job.
I have called every county college and tech school within 30-40 miles of my home and they are all already full for their nursing program. I figured I would call Lincoln Tech and I was excited to hear that there is still room to sign up there. But now I have mixed feelings about attending there after reading all that I have online about them.
I can't tell you how upset I am about being unemployed and basically feeling like I am worthless without a degree of some sort. I go from making good money to being unemployed and unable to find a job. I have always wanted to be a nurse, but I started a family really early and the option of attending college back then wasn't something we could afford at that time. I now have the ability to further my education and I feel like I keep hitting a brick wall while trying to do that.
At my age, I am more than willing to study hard and do what ever it takes to complete a nursing program, but I just don't know what to do right now. I have found some positive reviews online about LTI, but the negative ones sure do outnumber them.
hey, i'm starting there sept 24 also. i agree with the pricey-ness of it 100%. the reason i chose LT was because all county colleges have 1 year + wait lists, and instead of waiting on a list for a year i decided to attend the 1 year LPN program at LT and then continue my education for a second year in an RN program. there is the option to enroll in local county colleges with advanced standing (once you pass the nclex for LPN) so that is my goal. i already have a bachelors degree, and am graciously hoping the education i receive from LT doesnt get in the way of my goal of becoming a nurse. i think it's all about what you choose to take from the program and alot of the bad reviews come from poor students.
look forward to meeting you! message me if you want to chat before class starts! -- danielle
I start at LT in Moorestown 9/24/10 as well. I'm really excited and I have orientation this Friday at 12:00. Adrien and Danielle, I hope to meet you there.
I'm also hoping to maybe find people interested in carpooling when school starts. Maybe meeting in the Deptford area and taking turns with driving. It'll save on gas, etc.
See you both soon!

I just wanted to mention that I finally got into my local CC's program after nearly two years of prep/pre-reqs, and failing to get in last year. There are four-year colleges in the area that are easier to get into, but the CC has a PERFECT NCLEX pass-rate. The four-years cannot say the same. Your local CC may not be a better education than a four-year, but I don't think it is necessarily accurate to generalize that to all CCs.

Congratulations on being accepted to nursing school!!
I just wanted to say that you should be cautious in judging a school's quality solely on their NCLEX pass rates. I would also look at the percentage of the class that graduates each year. If they accept 100 students and 10 make it through the program and all pass NCLEX on their first time...the school will have a 100% NCLEX pass rate....but I wouldn't say it was a quality program.
I have no idea if this is the case with your CC, I just wanted to highlight that NCLEX pass rates aren't everything.
CuriousMe,
That's a good point. The school takes 32 students per class and generally ends up with 1-2 per year that do not succeed/pass. So that would be 4, maximum that fail per year, or about 87.5% success for each class.
They make it hard to get in, but once you are in, they want to see you make it.

It really depends on the instructor. Some are better than others, which I'm sure is the case in any program. There is definately a lot of self-study involved, but I think you are going to find that in most LPN programs because there is just so much information crammed into such a short period of time. I'm pretty good at self-studying so it's never really been an issue for me but I know it has been for other students.
Are you still considering going there?
