My Review of Lincoln Tech

Published

I just went to an open house at a local Lincoln Tech. I know there is a ton of bad things about LT on these forums, but wanted to check it out for myself.

Here are the highlights:

1. The school is inside a shopping mall. I am not kidding. It is on top of a Nordstorm.

2. The facilities are very nice, as the facility (as well as the enitre mall) are brand new. You can still smell the construction dust in some places.

3. The woman who gave the tour was very nice, but the admissions rep I am dealing with over the phone is very high-pressure (think car dealer or real estate agent).

4. Self-Study: I noticed that most of the LT threads here mention there is a lot of self-study, which I am not that crazy about. For the most part, I think this is correct. When I looked into the classrooms, I rarely saw an instructor in the front of the classroom teaching. Instead all of the students were sitting at long tables reading their textbooks. Some were talking to each other. In contrast, when I went to a different for profit school 2 weeks ago, I saw the instructors teaching. They were giving a presentation on an overhead projector. But I did not see this at LT.

5. Cost: I still have not gotten the cost of the program. I will get this info this week.

If anyone has experience with LT eithr as a student or just a prospective student, please feel free to share your insights.

CuriousMe,

That's a good point. The school takes 32 students per class and generally ends up with 1-2 per year that do not succeed/pass. So that would be 4, maximum that fail per year, or about 87.5% success for each class.

They make it hard to get in, but once you are in, they want to see you make it.

I'm glad that you're excited about your program. I've just seen folks place a lot of stock in the NCLEX passrate, and equate that to a good program....it's not always the case.

I have not applied yet, but have been thinking about it. A co worker of mine encouraged me to try it since she graduated from LT. I got cold feet when i heard about the pricey tuition. Then, since my job has fell victim to Christie's budget cut, employment for me will be ending for me by 2013. Just when i thought to go ahead and enroll, another nurse at work told me that her daughter attended, and none of LT's classes are accepted at any other school. What a bomb! I thought it would be perfect to attend LT, then enroll in another RN program some place else. Looks like I'll be starting all over from scratch, and with much money and time wasted if i decide to attend LT.

just because its a BSN program doesnt necessarily make it better than an ADN program. I know lots of RN's who have grad from a CC and they are excellent.

Research the school, ask currnent students what they think (ratemyprofessor.com is also good) and make your decision.

but run from the for profits. they just want your money.
