I work in addictions and mental health so dealing with difficult clients is my forte. I had a client today that was upset when I informed him that we must crush a certain controlled medication that has a high diversion rate. He stated that he's tired of people trying to protect him from himself, but that wasn't the kicker. He stated that he would never seek medical care again. I asked him if he felt he wasn't receiving adequate care. He then stated,"That's the problem, it's too adequate." I understood where he's coming from, of course, because we are annoying with vital signs and asking him questions, and he may feel a lack of control and independence. I completely get that. I just got a little kick out of a patient complaining about receiving too good of care. I accidently laughed, then he laughed and stated, "I'm sorry, that was a really ridiculous thing to say. I appreciate you." I wonder how his patient survey will look.
