I wanted to wait until I got my official results before I got back on this website to tell my story but I just couldn't wait to get it out and in the open. This website has been here for me through out my 4 week nclex journey so I figured maybe I can touch a few people as so many of you guys have touched me these past few weeks.
I went to a 2 year university after graduating high school in 2006. I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do with my life but I always knew that I wanted it to involve working with people. Once I decided that nursing was what I wanted I was faced with the option of staying at the community college I was already attending and do their ADN program or I could finish out my pre reqs, get my associates and move onto to a 4 year university. After much thought and consideration I decided you either go big or you go home so I aimed for the Bachelor's Degree. I finished out my associates and then moved out of town and started at university.
The nursing program at the school I applied to was extremely hard to get into!!! I was already at a disadvantage because I was an outsider coming in but I never gave up. Once I got in i struggled during that first semester. I really questioned whether nursing was really for me bc I never worked to hard in my life just to get C's on test. Well needless to say I made it thru that rough patch and by the next few semesters I had risen to one of the top people of our class. I maintained A's throughout the program and even was asked to join Sigma Theta Tau, the Nursing Honor Society. School was really not that bad but that fear of nclex was always in the back of my head.
I graduated this past December on the 17th and on that very same day I received the phone call that I had been offered 2 positions at the hospital I had previously interviewed at, the only stipulation was that I had to have my license and be ready to start orientation by January 23rd. While all my fellow classmates were enjoying graduation, I spent the next 4 weeks with my head in the books. I couldnt afford a review course so I took the advice of my teachers and just studied on my own and with some fellow classmates. I read Saunders Comprehensive 4th ed, Hurst NCLEX Reviews that I got at B&N, ATI, and Exam Cram and did lots of questions. I focused on content for the first 2 weeks and then did mainly questions the last 2 weeks. Once I got my ATT I scheduled my exam for the 19th of January.
Well today is the 20th and I keep checking the pearsonvue website in astonishment!!! I took the test yesterday morning at 8am and walked out at 9am only receiving 75 questions. I was so indifferent about the exam because unlike everyone else who has passed, I didnt walk out thinking the test was that bad at all. It was all really basic stuff and nothing like what people make it out to be. I truly believe that if you know your content, and I mean really know it, you will rock the socks off that test...
I am hoping to receive my quick results tomorrow to confirm the actual passing of my nclex-rn but I really wanted to share my story with you guys and let you know that you can do anything that you set your mind to. With hard work and dedication, nclex is achievable!!! You do not have to take a review course and you do not have to wait months to study. Just stay focused and keep your eye on the prize!!!! I hope this is able to ease the minds of some of you soon to be first timers or repeat takers!!! Never give up guys!!!
