My I ask, what is the pay in nyc?

U.S.A. New York

What is the pay in nyc for pediatric nurse practitioner or a rn?

It depends on borough, type of facility, union, shift, degree, years of experience.

Starting salary for a new grad ADN is about $55 - $62,000/yr.

Dont look at just starting salaries, though. Compare medical and other benefits and pensions plans. It may be worth it to take the job with the slightly lower salary if it offers better benefits/pensions.

What is an ADN?

In NYC, we have AAS - associate of applied sciences degree - thats the nursing degree for a 2 yr program. In other parts of the country, they call that an ADN - associate degree nurse.

I am only sure of the salaries at hospitals where the RNs are in the New York State Nurses Assoc union. In those, a new grad RN with a 2yr associate degree comes out of school first day on the job in NYC with a salary of about $55-62,000/yr and for a new grad RN with a 4 yr BSN degree, starting salary has a differential of about $1,500-2,000/yr more here.

Can i ask u something... Im planning on going for my Lpn degree 1rst.. then to an Rn degree then finalize it by taking getting my masters in pediatrics.. are those good step in becoming a pediatric nurse or should i do it another way?:p

another question.. what is required, like in schooling to get that degree? like classes and stuff? and exactly what do u do in that field?..

My hospital doesnt hire LPNs for pt care areas. We have only a couple in the endoscopy unit, the medicaid clinic and the non-urgent room in the ED. Most of the LPNs I know work in nursing homes or doctors offices. Look around & see if your hospitals are hiring LPNs. If not, you might have to work in a different kind of facility as an LPN until you get your RN. And if you can find a job as an LPN in a hospital, you might have to work in an area other than peds.

If you do find a hospital that is hiring LPNs, ask if they offer tuition assistance for you to go back for your RN degree. If so, they can then pay for your RN education if you agree to work for them for a period of time after you graduate.

For RNs, tuition reimbursement is a standard in this city, ever since unionized RNs fought to establish that benefit in the 1960's. You can work in peds as an RN with a 2 yr degree and then go back for your 4 yr BSN degree and then the Masters -- and let the hospital pay for it all. My hospital reimburses 100% up to 16 credits per year. Not out of the goodness of their hearts either. We had to fight 20 yrs ago to get that 100% in our contracts.

So I rather go the Aas or adn route, into becoming a P.N.P is that a good way to go about it, and what colleges provide that course here in nyc?

NCLEX REVIEW BOOK,>

First you HAVE TO HAVE nurse training/education to be eligible to sit for the exam. You cant just read a book & go take the test. This is a LICENSING exam. You wont be allowed to take the exam without the proper eligibility credentials and without documentation from a nursing school. If you just started your RN program this month (and btw, that is being delayed because the instructors are now on strike at that school)), and you have never completed an LPN program either, you CAN'T sit for the LPN license exam.

When I was in my first year of nursing school, we were REQUIRED to take the LPN exam as part of our med-surg final. You either have to complete a year of an RN program or complete an LPN program to be eligible to take the test and be considered for a license. Theres no way around that.

So, while youre accomplishing yoru eligibility requirements, why not work in a hospital as a nurses aid to obtain some pt care experience and a pay check.

Good luck.

Hi,

I graduated from Canada and want to take my NCLEX hopefully by end of summer. I'm just wondering what you guys used as study guides to help you pass the test. I've looked at kaplan online and you can register for about $300 and use their online services. Is this helpful or just a waste of money? I also have books by mosby, kaplan and Barrons. What other study guides can I use? Please advise.
