If I'd had to have a credit check, I probably wouldn't have gotten in. I have a mortgage foreclosure on mine, that happened roughly the same time I was separating from my ex. I don't agree that a score from a numbercrunching, privacy-invading, infamously inaccurate private corporation shows diddly squat about a person's character.-Indy
I absolutely agree! my personal finances are no one elses business...i made some mistakes with my credit when i was very young and unfort. had some awful roommates take advantage of my credit..i have not had bad credit since but have also not been in the financial position to be able to clear it up..i want to but im so poor, but that does not dictate my responsiblilty as a person, especially now that i am older and have leaned the error of my ways!
I have heard of jobs doing a credit check but not for the reason of seeing how much debt you are in, more for the fact they want to look for government leins or forbearences...ie is the gov looking for you bc you didnt pay your student loans for 10 years or are they looking at you for tax evasion, things like that...i have not ever had to have one for school..ever
...and my FBI check is only 25$ fingerprints and all...we had to have one background check through the state of Ohio which was 15$ and in a few months we have to have the FBI for NCLEX (our school makes us do it early, i believe you have to submit it 6 months before you sit for the NCLEX?)
I live in ohio and just got my background check done...my school actually gave me a paper about the background checks that was written by the Ohio BON (maybe your state is similar, i would def still contact the MI BON though)
here is what it says word for word:
THE FOLLOWING CRIMES ARE AUTOMATIC BARS TO NCLEX LICENSURE:
AGGREVATED MURDER (no kidding!)
MURDER
VOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER
FELONIOUS ASSULT/KIDNAPPING
RAPE
AGGRAVATED ROBBERY
AGGRAVATED BURLARY
SEXUAL BATTERY
GROSS SEXUAL IMPOSITION AND
AGGRAVATED ARSON
FURTHER THE OHIO BOARD OF NURSING MAY DENY NCLEX APPLICATION FOR THE FOLLOWING:
ANY FELONY
A CRIME INVOLVING GROSS IMMORTALITY OR MORAL TRUPITUDE
A MISDOMEANOR DRUG LAW CONVICTION
A MISDOMEANOR COMMITTED IN THE COURSE OF PRACTICE
the ohio BON says they take it on a case to case basis...you may want to contact a lawyer since domestic violence is technically a "violent crime" i can see the BON having a problem with that one...also the ohio BON states that they look at the pattern of convictions even if they are misdomeanors..so if your husband has a pattern of domestic violence convictions than they will look at that...the director of my program says that she has had students with DUI's and that they were ok but like I said its a case by case basis here...best advice...call your BON....hoped this helped.
I am not too sure about the DUI, but I had a not nice steroid freak boyfriend right out of high school that hit me (only once might I add) and I charged him and never looked back in his direction...until court when he made a fake report to a magistrate and i was cross charged. Too bad the day I supposively hit superman and tried to run over him with my car I was 3 states away with hotel receipts, etc. It pretty much got laughed out of court and he got in even more trouble than my original charge of assault for lying......long story short when i took my cna course it came up (even though it was a LIE and i was found not guilty) and I had to pay a hundred bucks to have it exponged off my record through the circuit court. I don't know if you can have things you were found guilty for exponged, I know you can with not guilty, but my mom is gen. district court clerk.....I will ask her the details and get back. I know it works and makes it disappear off your record because my rn program does your check before you start bc you work with pts. during clinicals..it was gone then. I will get back to you on the exponging thing though.GOOD LUCK :)
this is not exactly true...if you have something that you were not found guilty for then yes, you can have it expunged and it will never be seen again...if you are found guilty of something you can have it expunged (that is depending on what it is and when it happened etc) BUT when doing an FBI check ALL expunged records will come up (I know this bc i have an expungement for shoplifting many years ago when i was young and STUPID!).....also depending on what the charge is depends on whether or not its legal to leave it off of your criminal report...for example if you were caught for robbery and had it expunged (you can expunge SOME felonies but its very hard) it HAS to be included in your background report if you are dealing with the eldery, it is illegal to leave anything to do with theft off of your background check if working with the elderly or if you had something with violence then if you apply for a job with children it is illegal to leave that off your background check even if it was expunged....soo point is NEVER conceal...be upfront and honest even ifyou did have something expunged...

Umm....what is not exactly true? 1. I was not guilty so I chose to clear my record because I was found not guilty. I did not want someone's lies making me look bad and 2, I said I did NOT know what happens when you are found guilty and want to expunge...I'd check with my mom. ???????? This was merely my case senario, not book facts on felonies and misdem., and DEF. not advise to conceal anything if you are guilty.

ok, calm down...if you were not found guilty that is one thing..(which I said in the very fist line of my last post). My post was directed toward the OP, not you or your situation, dont know your situation, if that is what you say then im sure its true, not trying to contradict that..ANYWAY....obviously the OP's husband was convicted ..getting an expungement if you are found guilty will yes, sort of take it off your record BUT if you go into a profession that requires liscensing (which nursing does) or you work with the eldery or with children etc..when an FBI background is run IT WILL come up, even if it is expunged, ie if you work with children then any assult charges or violent charges that were expunges HAVE TO be reported, expunged or not. IF you work with the eldery than ALL theft charges from shoplifting to robbery MUST be reported even if they were expunged. If some place, say you were applying for a job without liscensing and someone just ran a regular arrest record, your expungement would not show up. As far as your situation, if you were not found guilty and/or the charge shows up "dismissed" that is different, but like the OP said her husband was charged and found guilty. I was replying for the OP so that there was no confusion, so that she did not make the assumption that if her husband got whatever it is that he has, expunged, that it would not show up ever again, bc I am here to tell you it does! Good luck OP with your husband..keep us posted on his decision.
