Hello everyone,

 We just found out my 26 year old husband has cancer and I'm not so sure if I should go to school this fall. I never throught that at the age of 27 that I would be caring for my sick spouse. I have take AP 01, remedial Algebra math and work 25 hours a week. My goal is to apply to two BSN programs for the Fall 09. I still have to pass college algebra, most of my science courses, and lastly pass my entrance exams. If I can not get my gen ed class finish I might have to wait maybe another year. My mother-in-law wants to help but to she has just gotten through cancer herself. Mike (My husband) wants me to go to school but I am not so sure. My class starts on Aug 20 so I have to make up my mind.

Thanks

I also agree w/ Cracklinrose, very good advice..

I am so sorry to hear about your husband :icon_hug:, please keep us updated.

Thought I would stop back by and wish you and your Husband well.....You both have a long journey ahead of you and I am sure that whatever decisions you made together are the right ones for your Family at this time.

I lost my youngest Brother to cancer 6 yrs ago....melanoma. He was 21 yrs old....I'd like to share these words with you and your Husband....these are his words.

"Live each and every day to the fullest, taking time to smell the flowers, to laugh with a child and just doing whatever makes "YOU" the individual, the "Happiest' for you never know when your world will change."

I think the key words being here are "YOU" and "Happiest".....if your Husband is content with you going to school and it makes him Happy and you Happy, then I see no reason why anything should stand in the way of either of your goals.

Please let us know how things are and know that we are concerned and here to help when we can.

Many times when we find out a loved one has cancer, we can't see beyond the negative.....think of the tears as rain....watering your love for one another....let this time draw you closer together....build strength from it.

I have been an LPN less than a year and we just found out my husband has terminal cancer. I feel that now that i am a nurse, i should be able to do something to help him but i can't. Any advice?

Can we get an update, OP?

Best wishes for all of you guys that are facing hard times.

update: i did not go to the lpn program because of the condition of my husband went down very quickly. unfortunately, the treatment did not work on my husband and he died of cancer in january of 2009. my life has change so much since 2008. i have since remarried and now i have a five month old daughter. my dream of lpn has never left me. right now i am trying to get my self together. i hope to start a weekend lpn program in july 2012.
