I need help! Apparently I have inherited my mom's gene for cracking/sore hands in the wintertime. I have tried lots of lotions including Eucerin, Vaseline intensive care, etc. I know this is just going to get worse due to all the handwashing I'm doing as well.
I am noticing the beginning of the dryness starting again, and I really really don't want a sore mess this winter. Not to mention the fact that I don't want yucky hands around sick patients.
Any ideas are welcome.

because i grew up on a farm in wisconsin, i know that the best hand cream is not a hand cream. it's udder cream. udderly smooth udder cream from drugstore.com (if you can't find it locally) works wonders. or any other udder cream you can find. frost guard or weather guard are my faves, but now that my folks are out of the dairy industry, i can't find it anymore.
this is different from bag balm, which works well on dry, cracked feet. bag balm is a greasy, sticky mess. udder cream absorbs quickly so you can get on with what you're doing without a greasy mess on your hands.
Ruby,
I did find this:

Is this what you meant?
Edited to add: I forgot to mention I did try Bag Balm once and totally agree...was like putting butter on my hands, ick!

that's the stuff! thanks for the link. i just ordered a tub of it. and it even comes from my home state!:)
Ruby,
Great, glad I could help! I also ordered some just now as well. I am hopeful of the results, it looks as though it has a lower concentration of widely-used hospital antimicrobial (chloroxylenol 1%) in it too which is a plus.
I'll let you all know how it works!
P.S. That is my home state as well, hence the huge problems in winter!

I have a problem with my skin peeling around my nails and my nails peel also.
I did try the Mary Kay stuff in the past...but got a horrible case of hives/eczema from it.
I've been slathering on Aveda's Hand Relief and it does help...but I do occasionally still find some small areas peeling, but not nearly as bad as it was.
