My first job interview being recovery

Hi all,

i am new here. I am in pa and in the PNAP program. It will be a year for me in November. I am just getting back to work. I have always been a ER nurse and this program prohibits me from going back to the ER. I also have experience teaching. I have applied to many job and I have interviews. My question is how do you present the program and when do you disclose it. Thanks

I usually wait until they ask if I have anything to add, if it doesn't come up in the reason you left your last job part. You can disclose as little or as much as you want.

I was told I could wait till they offered me the Job and then disclose in another meeting or over the phone. Has anyone done this?? I am really nervous. Want wording it you use. I was thinking about saying this: I would like to let you know about a personal situation. I am in a voluntary recover program. I have been in the program for a year and have complied completely with the program. I have a case manager that is willing to speak to you on behave of my compliance and about the program . I am very interested in this position and would like to accept.

Im also in Pnap and have been unemployed since 1/13. I have also found that when I disclose that I am in PNAP that the job offer has been rescinded I have started to find non nursing jobs because I really need to find some income. I Feel so discouraged. I guess I need to keep the faith. .

That sounds very honest and professional Lmm0316, I have never thought of disclosing at a later time after the job was offered. I guess if they rescinded after that, it would break discrimination laws.

This is my greatest fear, I must admit. I'm new to PNAP, just completed intensive outpatient therapy. I haven't been approved to return to work even on restricted license yet. I've only had one FirstLab specimen thus far. My organization didn't have a position that suited my restrictions and hence separated employment, despite a stellar work history (and no work-related charges), top-notch reviews and high level promotions. I'm also an older nurse so I don't even know if I can survive this ordeal and return to the nursing workforce. From what I've read online, not many nurses have success in getting back to work (or maybe these are the ones who post online and the successful ones don't).

When I start seeking work, I will start with employers I've work for in the past and had good work history with...and I will be upfront with them right from the start. If no one wants to take me on, then I'll be searching for a new career. I'll keep up with PNAP as long as reasonable. If I find a new career, I may just drop it all. But I'd really rather not do that.

i was an Assistant Dir.of Nursing and MDS coordinator for the term of my monitoring program

on completion, I successfully worked ER, home health and have been DON at two different LTC companies. LTC was the ticket for me working with those restrictions. Best of luck to you.....and "keep the faith"

My program states you can't be a supervisor (unknown for how long) so an ADON position would be out of the question.

my program only said i had to be supervised by another RN, ie the DON! SO MY ADON AND MDS COORDINATOR pisition worked out nicely.
