My first clinical is soon, any advice?

Published

I'm very scared, and I've been told my clinical director is a 'throw you in the room and learn it the hard way' person. I would love to hear some advice, and have an idea of what to expect.

Another thing is don't be afraid to ask your classmates for help if you need it. You all are there to help each other learn, and you can build great working (and sometimes fun, too!) relationships with your classmates this way. I find it challenging sometimes to balance giving my patient the best care with my own pride of wanting to "do it all myself"...give it a shot! It makes a big difference...

Just try to be yourself. Your patient won't bite so try to strike up a conversation with them. It will put you both at ease. Don't forget your sense of humor. Best of Luck....you'll do fine. Some of my funniest stories happened when I was in nursing school. :)

I agree with this. Just talk to them it really helps them and it may help you to.

One more thing. Don't listen to what everyone else says. Take your instructor as he or she comes. Do not create extra stress for yourself simply because of what someone has said this person is like. It is more important to prepare for the day...

Best of luck

Yup I agree with Jay,

People can and always will stretch the truth.

Your instructor will most likely be very good and teach you well.

Go in with an open mind and a mind willing to learn.

Learn look and listen. YOU WILL do just fine :)

Pwwwomise ya ;)

Use the patient prep sheet that your school gives you. Think about organizing patient cares and your day.

What should I be doing now?

Am I missing anything?

Measure twice cut once

When in doubt ask your instructor for guidance...

Best of luck!
