not a patient, but my mom. auntie emailed me and said grandma's brother died and did i think she should take my mother to the funeral. i emailed back and said that would be wonderful . . . so evidently mom (alzheimer's) was sitting with auntie in the church just prior to the funeral, and mom looked around at everyone in their sunday best and said, "so whose wedding is this?" fortunately everyone knows mom's condition.
auntie and i laughed and laughed, as did mom. my sister didn't think it was funny.
Last night I took care of the cutest woman with Alzheimer's. She was on telemetry, and kept pulling off her lead patches. I was peering down the front of her robe, and said, "Hmm....looks like I'll have to get some replacements. One of them is hanging down where it shouldn't be." To which she responded, "Yes. They sure do droop down at my age, don't they?" I suddenly realized that she was talking about her breasts. I explained I was speaking about the sticky patches that we had on her, and we both had a very good laugh.
My grandmother had this horrible disease. But she had a couple funny moments. I was walking with her outside and a flock of geese flew over and she pointed and said "oh look.....Cookies!" And on that same walk i remember her telling me after much silence "Dont worry, God knows" and that was just so comforting to hear her say.

"You just gave me a little Whoo-Hoo" as I slid the bed alarm under her bum. ROFLMAO! I laughed for 10 minutes WITH her. She is adorable and so much fun. Sometimes I just love my job!
