Im a new RN i work as a dental asst. in FL my boss has asked if i could give oral local injections and or start N20 ive taken N20 course at Uof F. he trained me on the job to give injections but I am not sure and fl website was unclear anyone have answers. I want to make sure I am legal.

Call the BON with that question. Ask them to send you the part of the RN scope that states it is okay or not okay.

You might want to check with the dental board too or who ever regulates dental assistants...most boards don't let you "cross over" in your duties...and check with your nursing malpractice insurance too and see if they would cover you as well.

I live in Florida as well. I do a lot of dermatology and surgeries related to derm. When we called the BON we were told that LPN's could NOT inject patients with local anesthesia but that RN's could. Again, I would call the BON just to check on that. Since you work as a dental assistant I would imagine that the Board of DA's could provide you with those guidelines.
