My ATI kit came and I'm a bit lost

Published

Hi guys, so my ATI kit comes and I promptly open it up and pop in a disk (after reading the 2-3 page welcome pamphlet) The disk I put in starts talking about routes of medication and I open up the book that goes with the disk and the beginning pages have nothing to do with the CD? I don't start class until the 31st so was trying to get the hang of all the new stuff about to be thrown at me, but am already dazed and confused. Anyone else have ATI experience or tips??????:bluecry1:

I'm not sure if its completely the same thing but when I was in LPN school we used ATI. We had a series of books..one was med-surg, OB, Peds, Mental Health and Fundamentals. The CDs did not always match up with the books. The purpose of the cds (at least for LPN) was to show the skills part of each book. If this isn't the same than I am sorry for the useless advice but I have ATI orientation for my RN program on September 1st and maybe then I can help you if it's different.

Yeah mine came w/ 4 books; pharmacology, fundamentals, med-surg and maternal/newborn. Thank you as it makes perfect sense now! I bet that's exactly what it is! The CD I started watching was called "basic nursing care" so yeah, I bet it does indeed come to actually "show" what the book is saying. Thanks again, I think I see the light now! LOL! :yeah:

My school currently uses ATI. The CD is to show you the skills and the books are supplemental to the text book. We have to read the ATI chapters that match what we are studying and then take a non- proctored online test before we can take the in class exam.

Good, I'm glad that it's the same. It seems stupid at first but it makes sense when you use the CD to supplement anything you don't understand in the text. Personally I watched all the skills stuff at went back and read anything that I didn't understand. I CANT WAIT TO GET MY ATI PACKAGE!

Yeah I probably should get my butt off this computer chair and onto my study chair and start reading some of the books, lol! I haven't even started NS yet and began looking at NCLEX threads! Sheesh! How the heck are we supposed to read all these books???????????

I honestly didn't read them all--I only read the parts that I felt I needed to re-enforce. If I didn't understand a topic I would star it and then go home and read everything I could on it--including the stuff from the ATI books otherwise I didn't read them in their entirety. I also did most of the questions behind each of the readings and got a good idea of whether I understood the content. If I didn't get a lot of the questions right--I went back and read the section. There is so much anxiety before you start school--I feel the same way you do!

I don't like ATI at all, some of their rationales are just not strong enough and leave plenty of room for a second option...

I already took my proctor for Pharmacology, Fundamentals, and OB, and got level 2 on them.

If your school hasn't told you about this already, let me share a little secret...

When you take some of the ATI Tests, on the results page, across from the name of the test on the far right you will see "Create Focused Review". Click on this and it tells you exactly what you need to go back and study. It includes the exact pages from the book and the specific segments of the video DVD that are relevant to what you missed on the test. It is very helpful.:typing
