Muslim nursing students

Published

Have any Muslim nursing students had problems wearing a hijab to class or clinical. I am worried about being asked to take mine off for class.

At my school any student that believes in a religion that requires one to wear a hijab or any type of head covering, they were never asked to take it off, as that would be impinging on your right to follow whatever religion you want.

But they did ask students to wear a white hijab to clinical to match the white scrubs required.

I've never noticed any issue with Muslim students in my program.

If you are in the USA, this should never be an issue. Long as you make it practical, it should never be a problem. As far as I know, if they ask you to take it off... they'd be in some deep trouble!

You may just have to make modifications like in the example above.

A fellow classmate has to wear long dresses due to her religion. For clinical and class they allowed her to wear a dress bottom that matches the color scrubs everyone else wears with the clinical top.

I've had several classmates that wore one and never had an issue. They also wore long sleeve shirts under our short sleeve scrub tops with no issues. I'm pretty sure they all wore a white one that matched our scrub tops as well.

All Muslim students in my program have been allowed to wear what their religion deems appropriate without issue.

Thank you. I have heard horror stories from some women about being treated differently because of their hijab.

Thank you. I am in an area where a lot of people aren't okay with Muslims. I will be the only one that I know of at the college. I am just worried people will complain to the professors.

Thanks. I usually wear a white one. The schools scrub color is blue. Maybe I should see what color they prefer.

I don't see why there would be a problem with the hijab, BUT the long sleeves as another person suggested could be an issue if you were looking into that as well.
