Hi everyone!!!
I wanted to go ahead and make a thread for MUSC's Spring 2015 hopefuls. I know it is a little bit early to start this thread, but I am just so excited. I am looking forward to everyone stats and encouragement for each other. Looking forward to the results!!!
Hi everyone! Sorry I'm joining late to this. I actually created a thread this morning and then realized this one was going pretty strong!I graduated from Winthrop University this past May with a degree in biology. My cGPA was 3.37. I currently work at Agape Senior as a Dementia Education Specialist... basically I help with clinical education within our company! I'm hoping that really stands out to MUSC, as I create certification/apprenticeship programs for Medical Assistants, CNA's, Caregivers, etc.
I've only volunteered about 40 hours in various settings - under a physician, physical therapist/assistant, transitional care manager, life enrichment, and in the labor delivery department at Piedmont Hospital.
I have 3 great references (1 being a Nurse manager at Palmetto Health Richland/alumni of MUSC) and my essay was about 94 words, which was reviewed by a Nursing Professor at USC.
I really feel like it could go either way for me, but I'm hoping it plays in my favor. I also applied to Anderson University for the second time for their ABSN. It starts in the Summer if anyone is interested. The applications are due December 15th.
Good luck to everyone!
Another Winthrop grad! YAY! I graduated from there in 2012. Wonderful school...sounds like you have some good things going for you in your application. Good luck to you!
Good Evening,
I'm Joseph, a 1st semester MUSC's ABSN student.
Here's a couple quick facts for everyone:
#1: There were 450 applicants for the Fall 2014 class, they accepted 83 students. Historically, there's fewer applicants applying for Spring admission.
#2: Once official notifications go out saying your selected for the program, prepare to pay a "matriculation" fee. I don't remember the exact cost; however, it is on their website. I want to say it's around $500, but don't quote me. All I know is this "matriculation fee" was a swift kick in the gonads; especially since I got accepted via priority admission and had only 10 days to pay it. So be prepared! If you don't pay it, you'll lose your seat.
#3: Becoming a CRNA is a great goal; I have a respiratory background and I've been contemplating this myself. With that said, CRNA is NOT a function of the College of Nursing and is rarely talked about. The big push from the CON is for PH'd and DNP nurses. These are three year programs if completed full-time and four years if done part-time. Also, once you graduate from the CON you're given priority status when applying for the PH'd/DNP programs.
In closing, please don't get discouraged if you don't get accepted. In my class the acceptance rate was 18%. You dust yourself off; call the admissions office, find out what you need to work on, then re-apply the next semester. MUSC is looking for a "well-rounded" student. Your GPA is important; however, it's not everything! Volunteer, Volunteer, Voluteer! Trust me!
Good luck everyone, I hope to see you soon!

Joseph

Joseph, thanks for giving us the inside scoop! This is such a big help, to hear from someone who actually got accepted and is currently a student. Hope you stick around and continue to give encouragement to others.
DEADLINE IS IN 5 DAYS!! WHOOO!!!!
Hey all!!
I am new to the site as well but wanted to jump on the thread!! I submitted my application back in early August and am SO nervous! Waiting is the hard part lol
I graduated from USC in 2010 and worked in another field for a few years before deciding to go back to school for Nursing. I'm really excited about the opportunity and hope we all get to be classmates soon!! Has anyone gotten any more news? Any acceptances? The deadline is so soon!! Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to find out!
