2.5 years nursing (CVICU, PICU), 299 GRE (152 V, 147 Q, 4.5 A), 3.56 BSN, 3.44 BS Exercise Science. Overall Science 3.04 (freshman Chem got me with two Cs) taking CCRN this month, multiple leadership positions in BSN (President, Honor Council, Sigma Theta Tau) and quality committee in CVICU. Also a preceptor, VAD expert, and K-Card champion. No idea where I currently stand. looking forward to the process though.

I wouldn't say I'm an expert at anything on my application though

Thanks for the info. That’s just what our unit calls the nurses who check off new grads. I guess super user or champion are other terms people use.

Ahh I gotcha. I didn’t know that, and it came across bad to me. You could word that differently on your resume. It could look bad to them as well. You very well may be an expert but you have to toe the line between confident and cocky in the interview. Don’t give them any reason to grill you LOL. Best of luck!

Thanks! I changed it to VAD preceptor, hows that sound? Just trying to do what I can to stand out a little more. Of the programs I’m applying to, MTSA is near my top. I admire what they stand for and their mission statement. Seems like a great program to be apart of. Are you currently in the program or applying?

That sounds great. I’m in the first semester of this program.

That’s awesome! Congrats! Hopefully I’ll see you around. I can’t make the open house, but the admission counselor said I could schedule a drop in when I head to Memphis in April. I’m taking my CCRN this month and turning my application in.

Thank you. Pam is great and will get you taken care of. Best of luck to you. So far, every staff/faculty member I have had any interaction with has been more than helpful.

I'm so excited for the open house. Any recommendations or advice for the GRE?

I used Magoosh’s free resources mostly. Took 3 power prep tests and the Manhattan prep free exam. Averaged around a v 152, q 150 and finished with a 299 (v 152 and 147 q. 4.5 A) Wasn’t happy with it but was told that a competitive verbal is typically around 152 because there’s an apparent correlation with passing final board exams and the verbal section of the GRE. So I’m not stressing the quant as much any more. If I don’t get in anywhere with the Spring applications then I’ll retake the GRE this Summer before schools open fall apps. Focusing on the CCRN now. I’m applying to around 8-10 schools with some not even accepting the GRE anymore And some that want a 292 average, so hopefully I’ll be competitive somewhere.

Is anyone going to the open house coming up 3/9? Anyone want to share their stats? I have a 3.7 GPA, have not taken GRE yet [any suggestions?], CCRN. 1 year of MICU experience.

Yes, I’ll be there!
3.3 GPA, member of Sigma Theta Tau, 300 GRE (154 Verbal, 147 Quant, 4 Writing), 1 year in Neuro ICU (first 2 years in surgery), CNOR certified.

Typo in my first comment LOL. 301, not 300.
