MSU Denver ANO 2017 Start

Published

Hi everyone! Is anyone thinking of applying for the Jan 2017 start at Metro for the accelerated program? I can't seem to find any recent posts about this.

I have applied!!! Very nervous and excited at the same time. What are your thoughts? Their NCLEX pass rates are very good, my nursing friends say that is the key to a great school!

Have you heard from other people about the rigor of the program?

Thanks for replying! It seems like there's almost no new activity surrounding this program. Yeah I'm really excited to see good NCLEX pass rates. This list ranks Metro 2nd in a list of top CO nursing programs Colorado Nursing Schools, Colleges and Degree Programs

I'm submitting VERY soon, I just need employer letters for verification of healthcare work. One of my classes (statistics) is still in progress but will be more than 50% complete by October 15th as per the MSU guidelines, I hope that won't hurt my chances too much.

How do you feel about the application process now that you're all finished?

It was a lot to get everything together, but filling out the application was quick and easy. I believe they use a point system for evaluating each candidate. I'm assuming higher grades, higher scores on the HESI, healthcare experience, will all equal more points.

It will be an intense program, though, I did read a blog post from a few years ago that mentioned a part time job is manageable.

Have you taken a cultural diversity class? I haven't yet, I registered for a Native American religion class at Red Rocks for the fall. I think that will satisfy the requirement.

Yeah, I took Africana Studies - Critical Race Theory as an undergrad. It's good to hear that a part-time job would be manageable, maybe something like home care with flexible hours and shorter shifts.

Do you know what nursing specialty you want to go into?

I'm leaning towards dialysis, the renal system is very interesting to me. I worked on a telemetry unit as a CNA and a lot of my patients suffered from renal failure. Some illnesses caused renal failure and others were a symptom of renal failure. It's a very complex system, often overlooked, but vital to our health.

What about you?

As for part time work, I bartend. The $12/HR I made as a CNA isn't enough to pay bills. Working in a bar, I can make double that and work half as much. Just gotta get through school!!

That's so cool, good for you! Yeah people generally don't realize how vital the renal system is until it stops working properly. I want to do pedi, but I'm 100% sure what area yet. I'm leaning toward NICU and oncology/hematology.

Are you from CO or are you from out of state?

Hey guys!

I applied to both the accelerated and traditional programs at Metro for Jan 2017! I got my previous degree at Metro and loved it there, so I am really hoping to get accepted.

I live in Colorado, I'm a transplant Chicago, I've been here over 9 years now. What about you? Is this the first nursing program you applied to?

I'm happy to hear, from a graduate, that Metro is a great school!! I took most of my pre-req's at CCD, I really like the Auraria campus. Do you know anyone in their nursing program? What is your undergrad in?

I don't know anyone in the nursing program, but I work with nurses that have graduated from Metros nursing program and they loved it. I got my past degree in health care management. What about you?
