I attended a nursing conference. An American Immig lawyer was there and mentioned about EB2 visas which are currently in a 1-2 years backlog, compared to the ususal EB3 with a 3-4 yrs backlog. I got interested because she said MDs and those with advanced degrees, masters, etc. will qualify under this EB2 visa category. I went to ask if the MAN (Masters of Art in Nursing) which is offered here in the Phils. will qualify? Because, I thought, well, as far as I know, there is no MAN in the US, only MSN. Am I correct? can anyone comment on this? Thank you very much.

Not sure if it will be recognised but even if it is you need to find a employer willing to employ you at masters level and most will require some years of experience. MAN I think is only for the Philippines. MSN is the US

i had several clinical instructor that were msn, idk where they received that degree tho. but i highly doubt they went to us to get msn. just a thought, if you were msn here and applied for a staff nurse position in us would the employer hire you or would think you're over qualified or something and consider someone else?

Saint Louis University in Baguio City Offers MSN maj in MCN, Psych, Adult Health
i do not know the other schools.
They say that the New Master's Degree Program in Union Christian College in the City of San Fernando La Union where they offer both MS and MA. Unfortunately, this is the maiden year of the Master's Programs of the School
MA degrees are also available in the States but not as popular as the MSN as what my friend told me a couple of nights ago
most nurses in our country who take up master's degree is for promotion in the Admin level. We do not have spcial practitioners yet and so, taking an MSN degree will only be useful for Academic Purposes

i think MAN is more applicable for those who want to be clinical instructors or professors... MSN i think is more useful in a hospital setting... there are so many schools now that offer MAN.. UERM in sta mesa offers MSN and you can choose if you want the thesis or non thesis tract...

MAN is designed to cater filipino population, for us to improve academically and clinically, thus improving standards and accreditation from different agencies may be in school or hospital accreditation. furthermore, with MAN degree going to US to work as a nurse, in common and practical sense, in the delegation principles. even a experienced nurse when pulled-out to other areas not of his specialty is considered as new entry nurse, thus, with none or 10 years experience as a nurse here will still make a level entry nurse in US plus passing the NCLEX. MSN are certified by agencies such AACN, nevertheless, MAN degree which US curriculum also has, which does not give further certification or examination, makes the bearer of the degree on edge in clinical leadership for the improvement of institute or hospital, ironically, both degrees are pre-requisited for further studies such as Ph.D, NP,. MAN and MSN ironically, these, degrees are more for institutional accreditation which it bearers gives an advantage for job security and tenure. NP or nurse practitioners are certified and licensed degree of nursing profession in US, these requires both masters degree may it be MAN or MSN, and experience before being accepted in the curriculum. MAN or MSN,. both gives advantage to its bearer, may it be in the advantage of his employer or to his/her personal growth. both, yields a security tenure at work (school or hospital), personal development and prerequisite for future doctorate studies. Most, importantly, Experience in the best teacher, "this where the rubber meets the road". thus, I advised to fresh graduate nurses who do not have enough experience not to enroll in graduate school yet unless they have gain some experience, its the same pathophysiology 20 years ago, question is how will place your insights against the actual and theoretical when you only have the book? secondly, you want some management level in nursing or in NSO, get yourself employed first so you would have something to say what are routines, protocols, schedules, in the hospital. Ive seen a lot of students who enrolled themselves in masters and I can see lots of pretensions yet with big question marks, masters are like more on sharing, comparison of ideas and actual experiences. Experience is the best teacher. to end, florence nightingale said: "Nursing is above all, a progressive calling, Year by year nurse have to learn new things and improved methods such as medicines, surgery and hygiene improve, Year by year, nurses are called to do more and better of what than they have done.
